Jordan Diggs will sign with South Carolina.
The defensive back from Island Coast High School in Cape Coral, Fla., was able to keep his choice a secret before his announcement on Saturday. Diggs chose the Gamecocks over Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
“Carolina felt like home,” Diggs told TheBigSpur.com. “I took all my visits and Carolina was just the place. There were many nights I just laid in my bed and envisioned myself being at that university. Carolina is what just felt right.”
It’s the right time for South Carolina to land Diggs. The Gamecocks lost junior cornerback Stephon Gilmore earlier this week to the NFL. South Carolina also needs a replacement for senior Antonio Allen, who played the spur position.
“I have to bust my butt and work hard,” Diggs said, “but the opportunity is there to come in and play as a freshman and that was something high on my list.”
Diggs is the 23rd player to commit to South Carolina’s class of 2012.
