No, I got that you were agreeing. Comments have no inflections.

I still think these guys look silly. To me, I’d be embarrassed. Good skills in shooting, editing, and rapping(?), but it’s silly in my view. All these types of team songs are. My opinion.

HOORAH MIZZOURAH!!

In the video they rubbed the nose of a face on a plaque. It looked like it had been rubbed many times before since the nose was paler than the rest of the plaque. Is that some sort of a tradition at Missouri?

It is basketball season so I don’t find it al lthat strange that the rap is about basketball. Also, Mizzou is having a great season so fans should be proud and happy.

We posted a link to the incident that I think you’re speaking of. I also wrote about it in detail twice and showed a still picture from it. No, I didn’t run the video on the site because it was pretty Not Safe For Work (what with genitals being rubbed on a face and all).

But for what I wrote, Alabama fans ripped me as if I was suggesting ALL Tide fans had done that.

Now I joke about a bad Missouri rap video and I’m getting ripped for that as well.

And you compare the two stories as though a) they’re equal and b) as though I’m offering them equal coverage in terms.

As far as a condescending tone toward Missouri, this site has never said a bad word about Missouri joining the SEC. You can go back to June 2010 and find where we — long before anyone else was saying it — showed that Mizzou would be a good “off the radar” fit for the SEC.

Now, if you’re talking about comments, well, obviously I can’t control those. Hell, read the comments on here and you’ll find that this is the worst site in America run by the biggest villain in America… who happens to hate all 14 schools while simultaneously being a fan of all 14 schools.

It was a dumb music video. We laughed at it. Our mistake.

So, just have some fun. We are in the SEC and that isn’t going to change no matter how many students make YouTube videos.

You did not see the merit in posting the video of a crime conducted by Bama fans, yet you post a video of college kids having fun? I don’t understand the (il)logic. Implied also is that Mizzou fans need to conduct themselves in a certain manner which is absurd after the tree burning, NOLA crime and other criminal conducts by SEC fans.

As a Mizzou grad I have read the comments on this board and others and this condescending tone has to stop!! Your fans need to understand that with the small population combined w/o A&M & Mizzou your great product could never get a BIG10 kind of TV-deal. So instead of treating us as a liability we should be treated as an asset. Remember staying in your existing markets would be a sure sign of death, while the BIG and ACC expands.

Finally we will need a period of adjusting to the football intensity w/n the SEC, but we will surprisemany. In addition our basketball team would be the 2nd best team in the conference. I now baskeball ranks behind spring football in the SEC, but we are not coming in apologizing to anyone.

We will leave the academics out of this discussion.

BTW–you do a great job w/ your site, and I do know that reasonable people can disagree.

It was a joke. We’re poking fun at a goofy video. No one’s saying boot Mizzou or axe the students. And we’ve made fun of other — in our view — “bad” music videos from other schools before.

I didn’t dream anyone would feel the need to post a lengthy commentary on the merits of the video.

I should have never posted it.

This is the first, however, about a new school “bustin’ in” to the SEC.

And when I wrote “embarrassing,” here’s what I meant — 20 years from now, I’d like to find these three guys and see if they’re still proud of this video. I know I’d be embarrassed by some of the stuff I did in college. I’m guessing as adults in a workplace somewhere down the road, these fellas are gonna take some flak from co-workers for their rap skills.

That said, I can’t get the darn thing out of my head.

Hope this helps the discussion! Always more embarrassing videos out there…

I see this video two different ways. On one hand I think the position of most rational Missouri fans is we’re grounded realist who recognize what a tremendous honor, privilege and opportunity for us to ask and be accepted to join the SEC. We understand the value of being understated, gracious, humble and genuinely appreciative for our new conference family. We also understand the need to earn our place in the SEC through measured accomplishments. This video and it’s youthfully over exuberant “we’re bustin’ in” doesn’t speak to those values or accurately reflect the background of Missouri’s fortunate circumstance joining the SEC in any way shape or form. Some could argue from that point of view, it’s in poor taste and not the face most Missouri fans want associated with them.

On the other hand and while I don’t like the video at all, if you consider all of the work and dedication that clearly went into making it and considering they’re students, I respect their effort and attempt to promote their University which clearly demonstrates their passion. Isn’t that level of school passion a good thing? How many students do you know who go to this creatively expressive level and make it happen?? Would I like to see it done more so with those values I express above and better reflective of the University and general fan base? Absolutely!! But these are still developing students and I think through that vantage point, I can cut them some slack.

It wasn’t a column, it was a quick blog post. It didn’t “attack” a school, it made fun of a bunch of frat boys rapping. As far as defensive, if someone puts words in my mouth that aren’t in the post, I’m going to refute those claims. That’s not defensive. That’s clarifying.

And I don’t think it’s racist at all to point out that the three guys rapping are white because there aren’t a whole lot of respected white rappers in the music industry. You can be politically correct all you like, but you don’t see many black NASCAR drivers or country singers, either. Pointing that out is not racist. No one is saying that there shouldn’t be blacks in NASCAR or white rappers (aside from Eminem) who are taken seriously.

And you might want to get to know a person and his background and his values before — under an anonymous “handle” — start calling that person a racist.

Ridiculous.

And yes, it is racist. There’s no way you’d say the say thing about black people trying to be smart.

“No we’re not knocking on the door, we’re bustin in.” That’s the first line in the rap.

Then: “SEC, here we come. Wildcats, watch out, son. You can have your one-and-done, but I’ll take Michael Dixon.”

That after the line about “Coach A” and Arkansas.

Considering all that, MU’s move to the SEC, and the SEC t-shirt in the video, I think, yes, it had a little something to do with Missouri joining the SEC.

Is it college guys having harmless fun? Sure. But we think it’s a silly way to celebrate an entry into the SEC. And seeing as how this site is all about our views, that’s why we posted the video and our opinion.

We’ve been very pro-Missouri at this site and this video doesn’t change our view. But if I were a fan of a school, I’d just as soon not see this a video like this spreading across the internet.

I don’t see that in my post. Apparently you read things that aren’t there. That, or you have just sterotyped all Skynyrd fans as being “confederate flag waving racists.” I’m guessing they’d find that offensive.

Go find a sense of humor.
