There are four seasons in the year of the common college football fan, and yes, there is some overlap:
1. Football season — August-January
2. Recruiting season — December-February
3. Spring season — March-April
4. Arrest and Dismissal season — January-August
Unfortunately the longest season is the last one. And we’re smack dab in it.
According to Columbia’s The State, South Carolina linebacker Angelo Watley was arrested on Sunday and charge with grand larceny, credit card theft, and “violent burglary second-degree.” Hell, that’s a full day’s work.
Keeping with University policy, Watley has been suspended from the Carolina team.
The sophomore-to-be linebacker was caught when two occupants of a home woke up, spotted Watley in their domicile, and phoned the police. He’s accused of stealing more than $2,700 in loot, including a laptop and an Apple iPad.
Ah, but this wasn’t his first run-in with the law. Last July he was arrested in his home state of Georgia on six charges of terrorist acts and threats. Here’s guessing Steve Spurrier wishes he’d not overlooked those charges now.
Watley did not play for the Gamecocks as a freshman. He takes a nice mug shot, though.
