I don’t think so. Didn’t Mike Anderson win the Big XII COY award when Mizzou won 31 games? I doubt it’s racism, but don’t try the race card in the SEC. We’ve been accused of it for wayyy too long. Four of 6 SEC West teams + Tennessee have African-American head coaches in basketball.

I would shy away from the racist comments. If you are not new to the SEC. A lot of SEC programs have endured those type of accusations for too long. It’s more bitterness about Mizzou leaving as the article suggests. Another well written article JP.

I would add that it LOOKS racist, as well. Aside from Haith, all Big XII head coaches are white. Aside from Missouri, the other four vacancies in the Big XII the past two years were filled by white coaches and African-Americans weren’t event on the short list. OU and Tech hired recycled coaches. Now…..was it pettiness or racism? Who knows; however, it certainly could be perceived as racism by some. And I think that’s what EVERY african-american athlete should be made aware of don;t you think? Let’s all chant. The Big XII is racist. Yep. Make it stick.

The conference is overflowing with spite and immaturity. Kansas is refusing to play Missouri in any sport, while Texas is doing the same for A&M.

Even if you accept their arguments that it is financially bad for them to play in football and men’s basketball, they’re hurting their other programs by not playing in other sports. Their traditional rivals would sell more tickets and get more media attention than any other non-conference teams they could schedule, all the while keeping travel easy on their student athletes and cheap for their budgets. It would be good for them competition-wise as well. Missouri is better than Kansas in just about everything that isn’t basketball; A&M is competitive with Texas in all sports and better than them in many.

If the LHN ever gets on basic cable in Texas they’ll want ratings; having tennis matches or softball games versus A&M will get better ratings and more interest across the state than tennis matches or softball games against even the #1 team in those sports.

They’re happy to hurt their own schools if they think it will also hurt A&M or Missouri.

Mizzou tight end Chase Coffman was a consensus All-American a few years ago and didn’t make the first, second or HM all-Big-12 teams. It happens.

Ouch, the Texas Conference isn’t playing fair. Haith did a fantastic job, but he also inherited a great team. His long-term success will depend on his ability to recruit his guys and win with them. I think Arkansas-Mizzou is going to be an intense rivalry over the next few seasons.

All this anger about schools switching conferences and coaches changing jobs seems to have started in the last few years. The first times I remember hearing much about it were when Miami and Virginia Tech left the Big East for the ACC and when Nick Saban left the Dolphins for Alabama. I don’t remember much of a fuss about similar events before.

Is this a new phenomenon or was I just oblivious to it before?

Coach Haith joins A&M kicker Randy Bullock in putting the pettiness of the Big 12 and their coaches on full display. Bullock “wasn’t good enough” to make first team for the Big 12 post season coaches awards, BUT he was a CONSENSUS All-American AND the winner of the Lou Groza Award for the nation’s BEST kicker! No worries…everyone knows who the best kicker in college football was last season AND who the best basketball coach in the Big 12 has been this season. HAPPY to leave these clowns behind and move to the SEC with our friends from Mizzou!

The just downright amnimosity and meaness directed at Missouri by the Big 12 is fastinating. Where was all this when Nebraska, Colorado and A&M left? Why be so bitter to Missouri? I just can’t accept the fact it is only because Missouri was teh last to go and put the Conference under 10 members. Oh well — it will soon be over and I have to admit I won’t miss those schools in the least.
