Um, still don’t care…All that matters is what happens on the field, and I find I funny that blogs like this feed into exactly what Pinkel and Mizzou is trying to do here, which is gain recognition and publicity. So thanks are in order the author and all commentors on this board!!

It seem ironic to me that Mizzou is entering perhaps the most tradition rich conference in the country after a decade of tradition-killing efforts by its own athletic department. The “manufactured” traditons of the last few years give a sense of false-passion(i.e. announcers and video boards leading chants instead of fans). The free tailgate parking areas are gone, the rivalries of the past century are postponed indefinately, the ‘antlers’ are buried in the ‘zou’ (is that the manufactured name for the student body or the football playing field?…never have figured that out), and now the block ‘M’ is gone. I fully expect football seniors will have to pick up gravel from the shoulder of Stadium Blvd in the future on senoir day because the rock ‘M’ and the hill will be covered bleacher seats. Fans are much better stewards of tradition than Athletic Departments. I am a long-time fan of and donor to Missouri athletics and I fear we will be embarrassed when our “new’ look is unveiled.

@jdshaw30 Grrrr. ….Says the guy that uses a 60′s Tiger moniker (which was not original, trademarked or in any way “owned” by Missouri). I had it on terri-cloth “I’m a Tiger” t-shirt as a kid. I loved it. Cute, but not lasting. Please Google “Block M”. Check out the Images only and see what you see: MICHIGAN. Frankly, that’s all you have to see. I, and many other Mizzou fans (the same ones who didn’t rail on Coach Frank haith before he even coached a game, the folks that pushed for — and embraced — the move to the SEC, etc.) are looking forward to seeing the new uniforms — researched, concepted and produced by PROFESSIONALS. All part of the Mizzou branding, move to the SEC and more. Change is good. MIZZOU-RAH! 2012 Big XII Tournament Champs…leaving on top!

I agree completely – and I’m a Missouri Tiger. Just so you know, there are many other MU people - probably a majority – that are none too happy about the uniform changes that are coming – especially the helmets. Whether you’re pro-Block M on the helmet or not (and I’m, admittedly, VERY much in favor of keeping the best looking helmet in college football – the Block M - in place (apologies, Bama)) if Pinkel and Nike seem hellbent to use the Tiger head, there are going to be EVEN FEWER Missouri people on board with it if it’s the oversized, gaudy tiger head that’s been hinted at, like above. Uniforms do not win National Championships, but they help convince impressionable 18 year olds to play for your team. Critizice Oregon’s uniforms all you want, but their recent success on the field is in large part to their innovative style and approach. That, plus a ton of Nike money.

Something tells me that recruits want to go to Alabama and LSU for more than just the traditional uniforms. Might be the national titles? I think it will be interesting to see how it plays out. From what I can tell Arkansas and Mizzou recruit pretty much the same kind of high school player. Both have strong ties to Texas recruiting and Arkansas has attempted to make some moves in the state of Missouri as well.

I am a Mizzou fan, but I am still a realist. We do have a winning record against the SEC, but as hard of a pill as it is to swallow, we don’t have any national titles or BCS appearances. So when I say sparce, I am looking at the overall picture. Not to say that this decade and the 1960′s wern’t great times to be a Mizzou fan. I think we are lucky to be living in arguably the best and most exciting era of Tiger football.

Perhaps you’re confused because Mizzou scores so many points — esp against current SEC teams in bowls, or even in their last four games vs. SEC teams (34 or more points each time since 2005). ” Arena football” in that way, sure.:)

This is all about branding. A strong brand stands out, it doesn’t blend in. Mizzou’s current and former unis (besides BeastMOde) were traditional and non-descript. No bad, but far from great. This will give Mizzou a totally unique and cutting edge look. That’s good branding and all the talk about the unis, good and bad, only helps because at the end of the day, these kid love the idea of so many uni options and combos. I love Bama and Penn State and ND and all the other classic looks. Mizzou was never in that group, so blazing a new path makes sense.

@Fayettechill14 It was an educated guess — to be honest I have never met anyone in Arkansas who wasn’t a Cards fan. And, I have spent many many days in Arkansas. After Mizzou, I root very hard for the Razorbacks in football. We were in Little Rock over Thansgiving and the first quarter of the LSU game was quite fun. That day, my Cardinal red became Arkansas red.

@MoKelly I’m a huge Cards fan. How’d you guess that one? Anyway, I was there and I enjoyed myself except for the game part. Mizzou had a very good team that year but not 31 points better than Arkansas. Frank Broyles (AD at the time) made some waves with Hog fans when he suggested that Arkansas not even accept a bowl invite after Nutt was fired.

My wife went to Arkansas and we were in Little Rock with her family when the game was on. Fun. Don’t be bitter — its not like it was a Cardinals Game after all. D-Mac needed 78 yards to move into 2nd on the all-time rushing list, and didn’t play a down after he got it. But if it’s the greatest win in your school’s history or whatever, congrats!

@MizSec1911 The 2008 Cotton Bowl game on New Years Day was the most fun football game I ever watched. It was fantastic and I still remember the game to this day. Arkansas had those 2 great running backs yet Missouri played a great game and shut them down.

The only “yellow” is in the logo and that exists now. And it’s not like it was Iowa Hawekyes/Pittsburgh Steelers yellow, anyway (or the Oregon day-glo yellow, which is putrid). The uniform stripes are CLEARLY a version of old gold….the color of the font used in the tease. The uniforms are just part of the overall branding, which is being updated all-around (on the field, signage,etc.). Mizzou is now (finally, I would say) OFFICIALLY the preferred term vs. Missouri (just as LSU is used in place of Louisiana State or Ole Miss instead of Mississippi or Vandy instead of Vanderbilt). FYI. Ol’ Mizzou (not Ole Mizzou) was a term used throughout the 60s and 70s, however, critics said that alluded to a segregationist past, so the Ol’ part faded since the early 1980′s. So, when a blogger refers to that, he’s not getting confused with Ole Miss, UNLESS he says “Ole” Mizzou, which is wrong, as it is (or was) Ol’Mizzou. This will look good. PROFESSIONALS are doing them, — thank god not a committee of curmudgeons on Tigerboard — based on research, and branding and creative talent. And no, it’s not “Pinkel’s idea” as some malcontents say, although he clearly saw them and approves of them and is thankfully touting them. The tease is clever, too. All will be revealed at the spring game. And then the merchandise sales with kick in with a flurry. MIZZOU-RAH!

Heard a rumor that it could be the Tiger on one side and numbers on the other. To me, that’s the best of old tradition and new tradition. During the best era in Mizzou’s history (60s with Dan Devine), we had numbers on the side. Then, they brought in the block M in 71 and we sucked for 30 years, until Gary Pinkel took over. The new tiger logo was introduced in 1999, right before Pinkel took over. All the Block M represents to me is 30 years of mediocre (or even worse) football. Let’s celebrate the positive history of Mizzou football: the 60s, the 2000s and going forward.

Think of the national championship game. Everyone in America could describe Alabama and LSU’s unis before they even took the field, because they are well-known and NEVER change. Recruits around here love that. Arkansas gets commits from out-of-state kids every year who rave about how much they “love the helmet,” so much so that it’s a running joke among Arkansas fans. Arkansas has worn essentially the same helmet design since 1953.

I liked Mizzou’s old unis. Of course, we haven’t actually seen the new ones so I’ll withhold judgement.

Despite Mizzou’s own efforts to deep-tease this, I’m waiting until the unveiling. Clearly the “M” on the helmet is being replaced by the tiger head, but I’m hoping for something more along the lines of the NFL Jaguars helmets than the over-sized internet guesses that have been rolling around. I also suspect that some of the screen grabs may be the special or one-off unis rather than the week-in, week-out versions. Again, we’ll see. There are plenty of Mizzou fans plenty worried about what will be unveiled on 4-14. Recruiting advantage or not, we don’t want some clown show.

As a Mizzou fan…I’m fine with us “re-branding” as we enter the best league in the nation. I get that when people see a block M they often think of Michigan first.

That said…these look awful. I will wait to pass judgment till I see them in person at the Spring Game…but so far I’m not impressed with the new look at all…which is sad…they could’ve really hit it out of the park.

Seems like a smart way to distiguish themselves as a modern alternatives in a tradition heavy conference. Let’s face it, Mizzou’s football history is sparce, so might as well find a way to stand out to recruits.

Oregon is 0-2 against the SEC in the last couple seasons. Why would you want to copy their unis? That still has Oregon written all over it.
