Georgia Southern (GaSo) is not going to go to the FBS within the next decade. At best this is a pipe-dream. In reality, the administration at GaSo is just saying that they want to do this because Georgia State moved up to the FBS. The GaSo admin is under 21 questions from boosters about why they haven't done it and this is just the smoke screen. GaSo does not have the financial resources or the alumni support for the move. Maybe they never will. Kennesaw State Univ has already passed GaSo in student size so GaSo is at best the 5th largest college in Georgia. The GaSo history has been as an A&M school and a Teachers college so there is no wealthy alumni to mine. In short, this is never going to happen for GaSo. Just hicks and rednecks with a dream!

[...] John Pennington looks at what’s coming on the horizon in this state, football-wise, and sees potential in Georgia State’s move to FBS football (and Georgia Southern’s attempt to do the same) to upset the status quo on the recruiting front. Each February, more SEC football signees come from the state of Georgia than from any other state in the Union. That includes Florida, despite the fact that the Sunshine State produces more NFL-caliber talent year-in and year-out than the Peach State does. The explanation for that is pretty simple: [...]

Kind of agree with some of this. It will also be happening one day over in Alabama, to a lesser extent, when UNA gets into D1-as they are pointing toward.

If UNA can just keep one or two Huntsville or Florence kids a year up there by their moms...it might be one less kid that goes up to Ole Miss, Vandy or MSU or maybe even a Knoxville or Auburn one day (none of this will ever impact Alabama, nor will GSU ever impact UGA) If a state kid gets that offer (s), he doesn't turn it down for those schools, not in our lifetimes...

But yes, GSU over a Missouri or a Kentucky...I could see that occasionally for an Atlanta prospect, if GSU gets pretty decent

But still, theoretically the state of Georgia (or Florida or Alabama) is always growing. You kind of need some more schools.

Of course, in reverse....the Vols certainly didn't benefit when ETSU stopping playing football, and there is some high school talent in East Tennessee, regardless of what your Rivals stars say..
