@poooooook my guess is that “inappropriate” in this context almost always means sexual. If they were just taking two hour lunches and forwarding each other joke emails on the university server, he would just come out and say it. The only other reasons to be that vague would almost certainly be worse, gun running, drug muling, dwarf tossing, etc.

What has not been completely established is the exact nature between Petrino and this girl. Is it sexual and how long has it been going on? NOTHING has been decided yet. He may very well survive this, depending on the facts that have yet to come out.

It might hurt recruiting for a year. However winning and putting kids in the pros will override most kids moral compass. Plus put it in a bigger picture – what 17/18 year old kid will not look at that and think “man I hope I am able to hit like that when I am 51 years old” The Mammas might have issues, but put it in the minds of a teenage boy. The big issues are; 1 how long has this been going on (ie did it start while she was a student), and 2: was it how she got the fundraising job within the department. Both are major issues that could lead to dismissal. Not that he was having an affair, but who was he having the affair with, how long, and what benefits was she receiving professional and finacially.

He should be fired because he blatantly and grossly violated university policy. If this was anyone else on the payroll, it would already be a foregone conclusion. I don’t know if I agree with Dennis Dodd that it would hurt recruiting though. It’s not like recruits and their parents didn’t already know they were dealing with someone of low moral fiber.
