You can give $13k per year free of tax, you can give any amount free of tax if it is medical bills (abortion?) or for tuition. Any amount over that falls under the unified giftestate tax credit, which means that you can receive up to $5 million under current law without owing taxes.

Thanks for proving my point. I’ve never seen a comment from “jaws2″ under any of the billion stories I’ve written praising Calipari or pointing out that he’s never been found guilty of anything.

But you sure picked up on me simply pointing out that in many cases when guys with bad reps are hired, bad things happen. So, yeah, that actually did take some thought to pull Petrino, Kiffin, Tressel and Calipari together.

For the record, I like John Calipari and I’ve repeatedly said he’s shown himself to be a better coach than he’s been given credit for. But his rep is his rep and reps often turn out to be true. Ask Arkansas fans.

I may be less forgiving of Dorrell. This is a person who had a masters degree and who concentrated on money and finance in school. She also worked in the donor department for the University of Arkansas. Gold digger would be kind, and prostitute would be more direct in light of the 20,000 “gift” from Petrino. Women like this are the ones who shackle the women who earn their degrees and toil in the working world without resorting to a sugar daddy. Sadly, she will probably use the exposure to make even more money before it is said and done.

@sojourner I think the first 12 to 14 K is excluded under current IRS rules. If the wife had given 10K and Petrino had given 10K the whole amount would have been allowed, but i am guessing that would have flagged Mrs Petrino as to what was going on. I think she is clear on receipt of cash, but Petrino may be liable for the difference of the max allowed and the 20K via a gift tax.

Meh, don’t agree for one second on the whole sympathy-because-we-all-make-mistakes jargon. The only mistake in his mind is wrecking his bike and being unable to hide from his transgressions no matter how hard he tried. He deceived the University, his own family, and before that the entire Falcons organization and Louisville. And he just now realizes he needs to be a better human being? Anyone who would hire him to lead their organization at this point is a fool. He should have stuck with the Cards, they have no problem compromising integrity for wins after seeing Pitino go through a comparable situation. My guess…UFL. Props to Ark for calling a spade a spade, although they don’t look innocent in any of this.

I don’t bellieve Jeff Long will have any significant backlash. Prior to the press conference Razorback fans were divided on the issue of the firing of BP. After the press conference, once we had all the important details, the vast majority of Hog fans support Long’s decision. That isn’t to say that we are not sad to see this happen, but it had to.

I concur with your thoughts on UofA hiring an interim coach for this season. The players and current coaching staff will pull together, and making a hasty move won’t help. There are good quality coaches who will be interested in the UofA position…we need to be patient.
