I would like to thank the PAC 12 for taking Colorado and the B1G for taking Nebraska and the SEC for taking Missouri and aTm so that the Big 12 could add Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, TCU, West Virginia, and Clemson

FSU doesn’t need money to compete with UF, We’ve been competing with them for quite a while and have done just fine. Even when we were an independent, we still competed with UF. That means academically and athletically.

Florida State Board of Trustee member Haggard states, “How do you not look into that [the Big 12] option,” asked Haggard. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees I can say that unanimously we would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer. We have to do what is in Florida State’s best interest.” This is the first public break in the, “we’re happy to be in the ACC” from FlSt. According to this board member, they are VERY unhappy in the ACC’s new television contract because it gave away 3rd tier rights to football but the schools retained 3rd tier rights to basketball.Moreover, I think the whole academic reputation of the ACC is overrated as the board member states, he’s never seen resume or application state that the applicant is applying to FlSt because it belongs to the ACC.http://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1364755

I have to wonder if Slive’s plan all along was to go to 16 and that maybe FSU was a part of that plan. And that perhaps what has stopped that plan from coming to fruition earlier was the ACC making the hard check and going after Pitt and Syracuse. It has seemed for a while that FSU was discontent with their situation, but it does not appear as though there is a viable path for them to exit the ACC under the current circumstances. I don’t see FSU suffering academically if they were to go to the SEC, for example. UF certainly has not suffered over the same time frame and if FSU’s academic connections to the ACC are limited then I don’t see that as being a great barrier. I have to believe that when Slive said he could “get to 16 in 15 minutes” that his long term goal was not 14. I don’t expect it to happen anytime soon though.

Think all the buzz about FSU and the Big 12 shows t FSU is one of the Belles of the Ball right now. Notre Dame, FSU and a couple of others seem to be the most attractive skirts with potential space on their dance card. Still say FSU is not a good fit for B12. Her natural environment is the South East somewhere. Too good a school for most of her suitors though.
