@GatorBuc I think what happened is that Mizzou's fan base spoke up. Nothing against A&M, but it's been kind of a lack luster series. People in Kansas City and St. Louis don't talk about A&M. If the Tigers got a big win, there's no one in our region that really care enough about A&M to make it fun to throw one liners at. So, if the Tigers going to be in the East, it only makes sense geographically and historically to have Arkansas as our rival. Besides, Arkansas still doesn't like us for exposing McFadden as a fraud in the 2008 Cotton Bowl when the Tigers won 38-7. Lol. But in all seriousness, the two teams are competively similar and I think this rivalry could turn out some extremely heated games in the future. This is gonna be fun!

@AndrewMartin I think you're right. I have a feeling that Big 12 expansion is coming soon and that could eventually lead to other conference picking the best schools away from the ACC and Big East. I get the feeling that everything will even out once expansion is done. The West will be set with Missouri, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, Alabama, and Auburn. The East will have Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina (expansion?), and Virginia Tech (expansion?). That's just what I think will happen. Thoughts?

I can't wait for this rivalry. As a Kansas City guy, my biggest fear was being so far west that road trips and rivalries wouldn't be possible to maintain. However, Arkansas is only a four hour drive (same distance as St. Louis) and there are quite a few Hog fans in our area that will make this rivalry fun. We already have a former basketball coach to root against in Arkansas, so I'm sure this thing will pick up steam when Anderson walks into Columbia for the first time. I alo hope that new rivalries with Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky might be formed.

If the league set itself up right to begin with, Mizzou would be in the west with both Arkansas and Texas A&M. This really shouldn't be an issue or a choice. Hopefully, when the SEC expands again and includes VI and NC, then Mizzou can be placed in the west like they should. Since Mizzou is going to pay the penalty, which schools benefited from placing them in the east division even though they are in the western frontier?

@GatorBuc Not that I would know, but I'm not sure A&M was ever real passionate about playing Mizzou every year. They don't really have a rivalry. Mizzou is interested in the game for the access to TX recruiting so I don't know that it matters much to A&M.

I think the MU-Ark game will become a great rivalry. That said, SC definitely was looking to get away from Arky for a currently weaker team, but everything cycles. I do believe this could hurt MU short term in recruiting Texas, but not long term. Pinkel and Co do an outstanding job but do need a few years to get up and running on all cylinders in the southeast.

An annual game between Mizzou and Arkansas is intriguing to me. I'm college football-aholic though so I will watch almost anything. I can see why Mizzou would want to play A&M every year and I think ultimately this will happen when the final product is created....yeah, I'm talking about more expansion and more conference games.

The good thing for Mizzou though is the overall quality when it comes to recruits of the SEC footprint is much greater than that of the current or even old Big 12 footprint. Everyone depended on TX in that league and while greater access to TX is here now for the SEC as well, Mizzou will also have exposure in FL and GA which are 2 of the top 4 recruiting states in the country. They will also have exposure in SC, AL, MS, LA, and TN. There are plenty of good prospects coming out of those states on an annual basis and this is a part of why the SEC is so deep. OK, KS, NE, CO, and IA don't produce nearly as much talent on a year to year basis. There is also the fact that prospects in border states to Missouri like IL, KS, IA, and NE will have a relatively close SEC team to sign with. for the first time ever, if they so choose and that is an advantage over the local home team. Kentucky has been recruiting in nearby OH and IN for a long time although their football program is never much to write home about so that mitigates the advantage.

I still prefer A&M as Mizzou's permanent cross division rival. It seems there is an attempt to recreate the KU/Mizzou rivalry.
The one way I can see this is if there is something in the works for Mizzou to move to the West division in the near future but Mizzou's closest border states besides Arky; UK, UT, Vandy are in the East division so Mizzou being in East division isn't that big a deal.
The natural rivalry for both A&M and Mizzou going into SEC is their game to be the best one coming in from the Big 12.
Or is this something like ensuring each are assimilated into the SEC by not playing each other but playing other SEC teams.
But all four are really new teams to the SEC so that idea doesn't seem good and SC/Arky were made rivals on their entry into SEC.
