@Mike007 Are you really talking about the Big 8? Really? I mean we can talk about Notre Dame and the Four Horsemen too, but that has nothing to do with BCS-era football. Did Nebraska kill UT 15 years ago? Yep. Did they do it with a video game passing attack? Nope. They were big up front and ran it down our throat. Remember Eric Crouch and Tommy Frazier? Were they Brandon Weeden-type spread QB’s? Hell no. They ran for 200 yards some games. You just made my point…the Big 12 can’t beat SEC teams with their current high school-like offenses. Back when they were tough, physical offenses that ran the ball well they had success.

Your post actually refers to 1968 and 1975. Give me a break, man. Your original point was that Weeden and Blackmon would’ve had success in the title game. RECENT history with THAT type of offense from the Big 12 suggests they would’ve failed miserably. Then you make a dated reference to a Nebraska team that is no longer in the Big 12 having success against Tennessee running A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT KIND OF OFFENSE. Nice try, though. Six in a row.

@JohnVol I don’t think JohnVol wants to take a trip down memory road with SEC and old Big 12 matchups. Ask him how TENN did against Nebraska their last two meetings; or ask Peyton Manning. The SEC just added a very mediocre team in Missouri; who has never come close to winning the Big 12; and yet they have18 wins 9 losses, and one tie against the SEC.

The truth is: the SEC has been ducking the big 12 (old big 8) sense ” teddy bear bryant was run out of the gator bowl 35-10 in 1968, and run out of legion field 20-7 in 1975 by ole “mediocre Mizzou:… And the SEC psychosis continues….

History suggests that’s not the case, and it’s not even close. Remember when OU and Bradford were gonna light up Florida? 14 points. Remember when McCoy was gonna light up Bama? Didn’t even make it out of the first quarter. What a joke.

The bottom line is OK State lost to Iowa State. Period. Win that game and you would’ve had your shot. I guarantee Les Miles would’ve rather played some Big 12 Arena League team than a rematch with Bama. How many times do we have to shut down some gimmicky Big 12 offense before y’all realize you can’t compete?

How many of these Big 12 spread attack QB’s have to completely fail at the next level before you realize these passing yards are coming against phantom defense?

If this is the sign of things to come then thank god the Tide are scheduling Penn State and Michigan, while Ohio State continues to duck the SEC football schools. If it means the SEC remains at 8 conference games to allow these high profile national games to continue, then it is a small price to pay. RTR

This is part of the brave new world the author champions where conferences play 9 games and play isolationist schedules for their other big boy game (PAC v. B1G and SEC v. ACC) but where there is no room for other meaningful interconference games such as B1G v. SEC, etc. This and the Tennessee cancellation shouldn’t surprise anyone.

We have had to listen to the BIG Ten cry babies’ whine about Florida not playing OOC. Hey Ohio State, FSU is an OOC game and Florida has played it for years. The math for the BIG Ten idiots is 8 conference games and FSU equals 9 games. Not including a sprinkle of Miami and USF. Yes, the same FSU that is 3-0 against the Buckeyes.

Honestly, this actually fits in better with McGarity’s view on OOC scheduling. He’s from the Jeremy Foley school of thought that the SEC slate is tough enough. Those Clemson, Boise, OK State, etc. matchups are likely a thing of the past. Still have Ga. Tech every year so he might have a point.
