There are too many questions I would like asked about this….
-How does he go about this in the hiring process? Naked pics uploaded with your resume, Wife conducts “private” interviews with him? Most assistants don’t have pics of their wives on the internet.
-What about Divorced or Single coaches? Can they file a discrimination suit based on this statement? This statement sure opens up that possibility.
-How does his wife feel about his statement that he basically is checking out his coaches wives?

@John at MrSEC No, I understand why people would say that. I’m not defending Franklin at all. He’s a moron. I just tend to think that ‘sexist’ means you are implying some inherent difference in value from men to women rather than saying some women are better than others.

I would think that suggesting a man be judged by the looks of his mate — meaning a woman be judged solely on her looks — would cause some to call Franklin sexist.

Was it sexist? I don’t know if it was sexist, but it was certainly stupid. It didn’t seem to be anti-female as much as it was just insulting and brain-dead.

Aren’t marriages supposed to be based on love? If you marry a girl that isn’t a 10 because you love her and being with her makes you a lot happier than some other girl then does that mean you aren’t qualified to be a coach or that you don’t have self-confidence and guts?

Not to mention there is also the implicit insult against women that aren’t “hot.” I’m betting there are some recruits’ moms, sisters, and girlfriends out there that won’t take kindly to that.

Don’t underestimate this. Franklin just made himself a mortal enemy of every female faculty member of every campus coast to coast. Not something to be taken lightly for a guy who wants to be a college football coach.

I’m a guy, a sales manager, and a someone tired of seeing so many statements taken so literally, but, having said all that…

…I find just about everything in those statements to be absurd. He’s an idiot. He’s given me a reason to root against Vandy, and that takes some doing.

I actually took his comments an entirely different way. Because coaching is such an intensive profession, you have to make sure the entire family can buy into the time and sacrifices needed. Plus Franklins whole thing is family at the worksite. He wants to make sure the wife is a strong, friendly type that will be a full partner in the process. The wives may end up being surrogate moms to some of these young. I admit I do get riled up sometimes about sexist stuff, but I really didn’t read it that way at all. (if you recall someone’s wife surely cost her husband some jobs last year)
