@Statesman That's a reasonable conclusion. I think the same could apply to the SEC as well though with 3 or 4 teams in a given year being involved in playoff/BCS games. SEC fans travel better than anyone and potentially 4 of these 6 bowl sites will be in current SEC states....Cotton(Dallas), Sugar(New Orleans), Chick-fil-A(Atlanta), and the Orange(Miami).

If this had been used last year then certainly LSU, Bama, and Arkansas would have been in these big bowls and maybe even South Carolina.

Although most are congratulating Slive for being the winner in the new playoff, I would argue that Jim Delaney like a fox came out the big winner. The BIG may not have a team in the playoffs every year, but what they are assured of is having 2 or maybe 3 teams in the 4- remaining Bowls. Removing conference affiliations was always Delaney's priority(he's accepted they can't compete head to head against the SEC) a goal, and the BIG's fans in the cold-areas have a strong reputation for traveling well to the warm weather states(Fla, Arizona, LA,etc).

All Delaney needs is a BIG team to make the playoffs(for example Ohio St.), then Michigan, Wisconsin & Iowa could get invites to the other bowls. Let's wait before we anoit Slive the winner & Delaney the loser.

I'm trying to figure this out. As I understand it:

1) Six bowls will rotate the two playoff games.
2) The four bowls not hosting the two playoff games will fill open spots with the highest rated teams not making the playoffs.

How do they decide which bowl gets the 1 vs 4 game and which gets the 2 vs 3 game? For example does the Champions Bowl get preference for a playoff game with a Big12 or SEC team?

Will the non-playoff bowls have conference tie-ins? Would the Rose take lower ranked PAC-12 and Big 10 teams instead of a higher ranked team like TCU? Wouldn't bowls prefer a tie-in to a conference that puts fans in seats rather than possibly hosting Cincinnati vs Boise State?
