Alabama can become a top notch overall Athletics Department. We've been competitive in several sports for a good while now, but have just not quite been able to seal the deal.

UA has made a lot of strides over the last 10 years in a lot of areas. The enrollment has grown from about 20K in that time to about 31K today and still growing. The new goal is 35K. A lot of these new students are coming from out of state as well. There were also a rash of new facilities upgrades in recent years, not just on Bryant-Denny. Football is always most important because it's the highest profile sport with the most upside, but I think it's worthwhile to try to compete in other sports as well. I think basketball is going to ultimately be fine with Anthony Grant. The baseball team needs a new coach though. With the amount of baseball talent in this state and the fact that Bama used to routinely host regionals there is just no excuse to have a crappy program. Bama didn't even make the SEC tournament this year.

I would think being successful in any sport that gets consistent TV coverage would be the most beneficial. We need upgrades in baseball and women's basketball. And maybe the SEC needs to think about adding Lacrosse. That's all over ESPN these days.
