"and whether a team is a conference champion.” So-o-o, when was that made a criteria? I was told that the "Selection Committee" would chose the #'s 1-4 teams in the country, and they would be the seeded teams. What if a team lost to a division opponent early (games 1-3), and won, convincingly, every other game; finished the season with the 3rd or 4th ranking in the country, would the "conference champion" who got into the conference title game, from the other division be considered more eligible because of one game, than the team that didn't play in the game because they didn't win their "division"?
@Dash1Bravo And even if the basketball selection committee gets skewered, they are getting it over their choices of #55-75(teams left out versus those who got in). None of those teams have a shot at winning anyway.

I think it will be a different animal when it comes to choosing #4 over #5. In Alabama's case last year, while there were weaknesses in the resume, someone would still have to make a compelling case that they were not among the top 4. Oregon would have surely gotten in over Stanford last year and you wouldn't have seen 2 teams from the PAC 12. For every weakness in Bama's resume Stanford had more. LSU would have been a lock and OSU would have probably been given a #2 seed.

Would Wisconsin or Clemson be given the nod over Bama? Other than the fact that they won their conference, there was nothing terribly compelling about their seasons. And I know Delany doesn't think well of teams that don't win their conference, but unless he's the deciding vote then that is only one man's outlook. If everyone on the committee shares the same outlook then Bama would have been in trouble, but I don't expect that to be the case. And even if Bama couldn't score a TD against LSU, neither could LSU score one against Bama. That was probably one of the most closely contested games between top teams in quite a while and I'm sure that went into everyone's thinking last year. LSU whipped Oregon and narrowly escaped Bama yet LSU would have been a lock for that playoff. If Oregon is good enough to get in, would not Bama be as well?

And John, I know you were just laying out a hypothetical for how the anti-SEC folks might look at it. These are just my answers to any anti-SEC folks that would have overlooked Bama last year.

Actually John, your second to last paragraph was the most interesting to me. I would suggest that it would not take long for a selection committee of guys with large egos (pick a retired coach, ANY retired coach, just to pick on coaches) who would not be more concerned with what the media said about them, day after day, week after week, than what a bunch of fans, from say the SEC, had to say? Good press and adulation are important to a lot of sports guys (well, to a lot of people), who KNOW the power of the press to raise them up or tear them down. I don't like this system as it is emerging. Maybe will change my opinion, but the more you write about it, the less I like it. (Okay, that's not a plea to stop writing about it).
