We shouldn't underestimate the extra pressure on Coach Pinkle moving to a new Conference. It's like moving to a new High School in your Junior year. You need to start all over with a whole new Group of guys. So, I.m not suprised at times he sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder. He proved himself in the Big 12 and now he needs to do it all over again in the SEC. Not easy for a Coach who believes he has already earned the respect he deserves.

I prefer humility to a chip. However, some of the questions were insulting and deserved Pinkel's response. For example the question referring to how did it feel being in the room with the other SEC coaches. As Pinkel said he knew 2/3 of them so it was not a big deal. He played college football with Saban, Miles coached in the Big12 against Pinkel, as well as the Auburn coach(1 year), Muschamp was an assistant at Texas. Why would he be overwhelmed?

I think after an adjustment period Mizzou will do just fine.

If TAMU beats MU at home this year, it would be the first time in 3 years.

Gary Pinkel is all class. Yes, he generally speaks "fast." Yes, he is not intimidated. Yes, he suffers fools and their pablum puking re-tread questions poorly...but in his dotage he doesn't look like he'll tear their head off and shove it in their shirt...well, as much.

Ridiculous...Mizzou will do better than Aggy this year.

Vegas has both Mizzou and A&M's over/under at 7.5 wins this season. Bet the under on Aggy. Mizzou? Pick 'em...I'm not touching that.

You can hardly blame Pinkel for wearing his feelings on his sleeve. In the last few years, we've made regular appearances in the top 25. After having 0 selections to the pre-season All-SEC first team, and after pundits spew lackluster expectations all over Columbia, I'd feel exactly the same. Just today on ESPN, the commentators seemed agreed and confident that TAMU (in the more difficult division) would fare better this year than Mizzou. They must not have watched Mizzou beat TAMU in CStat last year or the year before, back when TAMU still had an experienced quarterback in Ryan Tannehill. Mizzou has met and beaten respectable SEC opponents before. We delivered the goods in the 2007 Cotton Bowl. I'll save you any unrealistic conjecture that Mizzou might be among the best teams in the SEC this year, but it's fair to say they won't be among the worst. If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow. I'll keep my Mossberg loaded and ready, and I promise you I will go find a crow, shoot it, and eat it.

I think Pinkle does have a chip on his shoulder with regards to how Mizzou will handle the new pressures of the SEC, but I think it is intentional. I think he does it in part to instill that mentality in the players. For a while (I'm talking 40+ years) Mizzou fans and players have had a "we can't beat that team" mentalty when facing powerhouses. The Oklahomas of the world and the Nebraskas and the Texans would come in and no one really believed we would win. Getting beat up on by Oklahoma and Nebraska for going on 100 years can cause a bit of a complex. Needless to say Pinkle came in and fought that mentality. It wasn't until a few seasons ago that it seemed that our fans and players truely believed we belonged on the same field as an Oklahoma and Texas. In '07 when Mizzou was the #1 team in the nation we still didn't really believe we were an Oklahoma caliber team. That season was a step in the right direction and Pinkle has carried it forward. You can't hope to compete with teams that you are "in awe" of. That being said, Pinkle's position is for the players and the Missouri fans. If fans and players are busy trying to get Alabama's and Georgia's autorgraphs at half-time, there is no chance for victory.
