Athlete Jason Smith from McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala., committed to Auburn on Monday.
“I just felt at home and my mom and dad and my whole family enjoyed coming up and visiting,” Smith told 247Sports. “… I wanted to hurry up and make my decision so I could focus more on my upcoming senior season and focus on the team.”
Smith’s offer list included Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Arkansas State. He’s considered the nation’s 40th-best athlete by ESPN RecruitingNation and could play quarterback, wide receiver or defensive back in college.
“He’s unreal at wide receiver,” McGill-Toolen coach Bart Sessions told ESPN in March. “Jason could also be an NFL corner. And he’s our quarterback and he can play that position in college. There’s no question about it.”
Smith, Auburn’s 15th commitment for the 2013 class, has expressed an openness to playing any position when he gets to college.
“I can play multiple positions,” Smith said in March. “I am interchangeable. I can play wide receiver or cornerback. If that’s what it’s going to take, then I will make the switch. I will do it. I want to make it to college and go pro so I can take care of my parents and family. I will do what it takes.”
