I don't think any informed college football fan disputes that the SEC is the best league, with the best defenses. But objectively, when watching the OK/FL game and the ALA/TX games, those teams were very close. With Colt McCoy in there, it could have been a much different game, we'll never know. And OK blew a couple of early opportunities that were golden; it seemed to me they were very, very close, with OK having the better offense and FL the better defense.

But yes, a great defense can often neutralize a great offense. It just depends on a lot of circumstances. I myself - an old guy - remember the game of the century, the OK/NEB game of 1971. Even as a kid, I was shocked at how easily OK moved the ball on an incredible NEB defense. It was NEB's offense that won the game for them.

@GeauxState
Yes, you are exactly right about that part. All for one and one for all... against outsiders/bowl season.

But I think TJ actually would agree with that and had a different point in mind. He's probably just weary of hearing over and over again how NFL-like the SEC is and how Mizzou is gonna get crushed... natural reaction for a competitive athlete, even if it turns out true (hopefully not!). I think what he's saying is that not every SEC team is as tough as LSU and ALA were last year; that Mizzou may surprise some people; that while the BIG-12 teams overall were/are not as good as those in the SEC, some were very good.

Correction Mizzou fans and players, when one school wins we all win! That's the beauty of the SEC! We love to beat each other but we also take pride in being a family and pulling for each other against the outsiders. We're glad to have you guys and A&M in the league! Good luck in all athletics.

Blah, blah blah- I guess he'll find out, as did the 2008 Oklahoma Sooners. The same sooners that set multiple Ncaa records. The same Big 12 team that was deemed the most prolific scoring machine ever. Yeah I know that it's a different year, but everytime I hear this argument this is what I think of.
