@Bocktean Yeah, according to that article ESPN initiated the discussions for a neutral site game and Wisconsin offered the home and home which Bama then rejected. It did not say that Bama rejected the idea of the neutral site game. It implied that Bama was willing to go along with that and they might still be willing to do that if Wisconsin will drop the demand for the home and home.

The SEC will add a ninth conference game per season when the networks pay for the additional inventory, either in direct broadcast licensing fees or via Project X, the SEC network.

One reason Bama likes neutral site games is because they play them in areas they want to recruit in such as Dallas and Atlanta.I don’t see much recruiting advantage to playing in Wisconsin.Also not sure when we could fit in a home and home in the next 8 years.

Why would a school like Wisconsin want an all-or-nothing home and home instead of one neutral site game? Isn’t one better than none?

Neutral site games are season openers. They hog the limelight. They get all the pre-season buzz, much like Bama-Michigan sneaks into most off-season columns about the upcoming season. I’m surprised Wisconsin would walk away from the opportunity. Alabama will find a suitable neutral site partner. Wisconsin won’t find a similar opportunity.

Mistake by the Badgers.

All schools who seriously contend for championships will ensure their strength-of-schedule factor is up to par, they’re not idiots. Nine conference games can actually hurt at times when the weak sisters rotate on.

Hadn’t seen the Michigan State series, but I pretty clearly mentioned the other two games right in the first paragraph:

“And Bama’s scheduled to return to Atlanta for their 2013 (Virginia Tech again) and 2014 (West Virginia) openers.”

FWIW, Alabama has Va Tech (ATL) in 2013, WVU (ATL) in 2014 and a home-and-home with Michigan State for 2016-17
