That’s great! I’m an Ag too, and I can just imagine the local cops in Bryan and College Station on the lookout for them. A potential melee was averted — the Wall would have likely held in silent protest to these banshees, but there are many in the area who would not have been so ‘tolerant’. I can’t say as I would have blamed them, but WBC is all about looking for reasons to file lawsuits. That’s how they make their money, grabbing whatever opportunities they can in a church setting. They may want to review what Jesus did to the money-changers in the Temple.

Thanks for the post John, not many times you read stuff on any sports page that gives you goose bumps. And this is not a disagreement with you, but in my mind this does have something to do with athletics, and this is the reason it got posted here. Most of what binds students (and alumni and former students) at any school is the athletic program and the lessons learned by the athletes and those of us spectators. Gathering by the tens of thousands a few weekends a year is how we get to define the student body, and the games are a window into the ethos of the schools whose students meet on the field and off.

What I like about A&M AND the SEC is reflected in this very well thought out piece. Aggies did it, but every SEC student body in general sees a reflection of itself in this call to duty. It underlines that membership in a conference really is about more things than sports, and those things are very important. Its sports that bring us together so for better or for worse we can talk about them, and evaluate our performance. When I read this, I said, “Yep, that’s about par for the course for the Ags,” but also that if I had opened this post and it had said any other student body in the SEC had done the same thing, I would have said, “Yep, thats about par for the course for them too.” Point being, that Ags are home.

Again, great post John. Thanks for making my 4th of July extended weekend.

Awesome. I stand by our right to speak freely, but I think Funerals should be held sacred. No matter what beliefs anyone has, a funeral isn’t the time to protest. All these people are doing is creating hate. As a christian, it makes me sick. Jesus was about love. He said hate the sin, not the sinner. This, more then any other time, is when these people need to be shown christ’s love, and in my opinion, the A&M folks did just that. Great job guys, glad to have you. From a Gamecock fan.

The WBC did show up, but were almost immediately ticketed and towed by the city for parking violations, so they never even got around to the protesting. They drove all that way just to spend $250 on tickets haha! Good job Aggies

Typical WBC rhetoric, good job TAMU students! I ride with the patriot Guard when I can and a couple times these idiots actually have shown up, they usually don’t end up sticking around long, Phelps or any of the leadership for that matter rarely ever attend these protests, they’re all lawyers and make their living suing people
