My cynicism meter is pegged after yesterday's coverage of the NCAA's decision on punishing Penn State. If the nation feels it is time to exact a pound of flesh from the players at Penn State, hard to figure what I would do as a player. Probably my first inclination would be to say, "Screw all of you, I'm going to hang tight with my school and we will show you we can do it." That would not last long though. The pressure for first tier players to leave will be mounting, day by day. By the end of the first week, I suspect every player on scholarship will have advised, will have thought this through and will have at least examined an exit option.

Have no idea what school will benefit from the NCAA firing squad, but the sad truth is, the first guys in 1st and 2d class to figure out the Titanic was really going to sink were the guys who got in the lifeboats first. Third class passengers were never given an option. So, some guys who would like to leave are not going to be given much of an option.

Never been a Penn State fan. Ever. Paterno was a boring figure, the uniforms are boring, the school just did not play any team I cared about, etc., but I don't like seeing young people thrown under the bus. Here's to hoping the guys who need to bail find a slot. If its UK, good for UK and good for them.
