Sad that Matthews has to not only blame Meyer for the downfall at Florida but then go on to say without Tebow they wouldnt have won a title in 2008. The fact is Meyer has won everywhere he has gone and it appears to me Shane Matthews just personally doesn’t like Urban. Meyer won 2 National Championships at Florida which is 2 more than Shane Matthews won and correct me if Im wrong but 1 more title than Steve Spurrier.. Sour Grapes because of the way Meyer left , but look at Meyers track record no one can dispute that the guy can coach…

It is impossible to know who would have been the QB if you take Tebow away. So it is impossible to look back and say if you take Tebow off the team there is no titles. Maybe he recruits differently in the backfield if he doesn’t have a FB for a QB, and he signs a power back who takes care of the short yardage plays. Plenty of Track stars have been stars in college and failed in the pros (i.e. Teddy Ginn Jr.). It is much easier to design systems to mask the weaknesses of a player in college, which happens to be something Urban Meyer was rather good at). For instance the fact that Tebow couldn’t/can’t throw the ball to save his own life in the NFL didn’t prevent him from putting up great numbers at UF. His weaknesses were clevelry masked at the college level by his coach and his system (Urban meyer).

Good thing Tressel already recruited an elite QB to fit his system. So I don’t think it matters for the next three years what QBs meyer recruits at OSU. He has a QB with a strong arm and the ability to rip off 80 yd TD runs on designed running plays. Sounds perferct, now he just needs a track star to hand the ball too and catch screen passes and he’s set.

“Blaming Meyer.” For what? Winning. No one said he had nothing to do with the Gators’ success. You wrote that. Not me. I also didn’t say Ron Zook would have won titles with Tebow. Again, you just write things to create your own argument.

But I’ll say this again — take Tim Tebow off the 2006 and 2008 squads and Florida doesn’t have either trophy. Sorry. My opinion. If that makes you weepy, tough.

As for Meyer, I think he’ll have success at Ohio State. For one, his track team should do well in a slower league. But unless he finds another Tebow or Newton, I don’t think he’ll collect two national crowns at OSU, no. And unless he starts to maintain discipline off the field, I don’t expect him to be in Columbus for longer than five or six years. As was the case at Florida.

Again, my opinion. My site… my opinion. That’s how it works.

Still blaming Meyer? Sad. Grow up – you got plenty from him. To say 2006 wouln’t have happened without Tebow is a fallacy invented to fit your plot line that Meyer had nothing to do with the Gators success. Tebow did a lot – no doubt, but you’re basically telling me those crystal balls would be there under coach Ron Zook as long as Tebow was there??? I’m claiming BS on that…

Uh, yes. You got it. I’m “bashing” Meyer because he left the “self annointed kings of college football.” (Shows what I know. I thought those six BCS trophies were handed out by all the FBS-level football schools, not just Mike Slive.)

One must simply look towards the true character that Tebow maintains on and off the field to know that under Urban’s tutelage he matured not on.y as a football player but as a man. The Osu Bucks need a mentor type figure for this football team that will enable them to not only get over the hump but also to restore the culture of winning that existed just a few years ago. Coach Meyer won… Tebow succeeded… Meyer left the self annoited kings of college football the sec… And now you all feel the need to bash because some washed up qb decides to whine some more. How pathedic.

Tebow was the game changer. UF had some very, very good players along side. The O line was great, and there were many others. Problems on the team had to do with more than recruiting, as evidenced by the number of felony arrests, disciplinary problems, etc. It has become pretty clear to a lot of Florida grads that the old saw in football is true, Don’t plan statues to living coaches and or players……..
