This Shapiro/Miami investigation mess has been going on for some time now. Is it about to wind up and some of folks implicated in it are now being notified along with their employers? The penalities on this could be big time.

Ask Memphis fans about that one. They lost a basketball season because Derrick Rose — initially cleared by the NCAA — was eventually deemed ineligible. The NCAA maintains the right to change its views based on new information coming to light.

From what I was told by someone in Gainesville today, the NCAA is now taking a closer look at Hill and his role in the Miami scandal. Does that mean they’ll find something? Not necessarily. But something’s clearly changed from last August to this August.

For that reason, it’s still fair for Alabama fans to have some doubts about the ex-Hurricane guys on Nick Saban’s staff.

@John at MrSEC I recall Saban at the time saying Stoutland and Pannunzio were vetted by the NCAA in the usual process before they were hired at Bama. Probably same happened with Hill at Florida. If the NCAA gives a coach its approval before he’s hired, I don’t see how there could be any problems.

As noted in one of the links above, Alabama director of football operations Joe Pannunzio was implicated in the Miami scandal as well.

Jeff Stoutland, Alabama’s O-line coach, was at Miami when all that mess went on. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens with him.
