As someone who had the misfortune of growing up in podunk College Station,TX all I have to say is get use to it. TAMU is very petty and childish school the student body as well as the alumni never grew out of that high school pep rally mentality and idiotic actions of this nature are to be expected. Question is, how will you report on it… you’ve already reported on it with a bunch of misleading premature accusations, singled out the entire student body with your headline “Got Stupid? A&M taunts…”, laid claim that you thought Mo and TAMU should have their butts kicked, suggested that southern manners were not taught in Mo or Texas, stated that A&M and the Tigers should be trying to make friends instead of trash talking, and implied that such trash talking that you summarized in your headline “Got Stupid? A&M taunts…” that A&M was ” childish and stupid. Now John, you ranted all of this without EVER knowing who put up the billboard, so we can only wait to hear your “trash” talk once their identity is actually revealed. You stated you didn’t like the term yellow journalism when Aggies started calling your out, well pard, put a little gumshoe effort into your journalism and quit hiding behind the “opinion” card. Aggies aint upset at you for negative reporting, we’re upset at your bullS*** reporting.

John, do you ever go back and read what you write? Your crawfish is so bad that I think you convince yourself you wrote something entirely different.

You seriously need to understand the difference between reporting and editorializing. If it were me who wrote that, I would be backtracking for being so presumptuous and naiive. Even if it WERE an Aggie, and always a small chance it could, the broad brush you used in your belittling remarks was way out of line. In the end, it is your own credibility on display here. You’re both missing the point and proving it at the same time. All this talk about big boy pants, etc. is really tired because that’s all it is…talk. They’re playing football now so that’s where things will be sorted out. The Danica reference is pretty funny but bottom line is that anyone would get fed up after awhile and just chalk the negativity up to more anonymous internet hate. Not you, just the whole situation: Negative comments on Clay’s site, SEC facebook pages, newspaper forums and any other hit and run venue you can name. We’re glad to be here (thrilled, in fact) but we’re not going to beg you or anyone else to like us and we’re certainly not going to apologize for taking the SEC’s offer to join. Some folks don’t like Mizzou in the SEC? That’s OK. Mike Slive saw why Mizzou was perfect for the SEC. You can only read comments about how your team has ruined the conference so many times before you decide that you’re going to support your team and to hell with the handwringers. As the new guys Mizzou fans (and Aggie fans) should expect some ribbing; the folks dishing it out have to understand that Mizzou fans and Aggie fans will return it in kind. It that ol’ Highway 6 thing again. As to the billboard, well that’s a bad idea. Frankly, the notion that Texas or Baylor has anything to do with it strikes me as conspiracy talk but I guess we’ll see what happens.

“Got Stupid? A&M is taunting…” Really? Isn’t this a little premature? What if it’s not A&M, or any person or alum associated with TAMU? Who’s got Stupid then?

I sure have been appreciative of this site since I found it just prior to TAMU joining the SEC. I told many a friend about it and claimed it as the best site on the net for SEC news, even felt obliged to to post similar opinion and thanks on a few blogs in here. But the tone in here sure seems to have changed since John started “calling out” his critics. And I must say that this billboard issue has not been reflected well herein. I take offense that because some misguided idiot put that billboard up, John has claimed that southern manners are not taught in the Lone Star state and the title of his initial post clearly suggest that “A&M is taunting”. I know your wrong on your the southern part, and hope like hell your wrong on the second. But if you want to prematurely convict and Aggie for this non-sense and hope that TAMU get’s their fannies kicked, your prerogative. But I personally think you jumped the gun given what we know, or don’t know, and as I read through your subsequent post, you seem to be “crawfishn”. Basically, I equate your initial response to the same kind of trash talk you say your against, it’s all garbage. I don’t mind your opinions, that’s what attracts me to your site, but you your initial comments in part on this billboard issue were premature and in poor form – in my opinion of course.

Real Football, Real Tradition. Hang on………..let me laugh some more. Ok. As a Razorback fan, we’re middle of the road in the SEC. Sure, we’ve had some great years and won or co-won the western division 4 times. We lead the series record with A&M 41–24–3. LSU the other school in the SEC the Aggies have played, not much better. LSU leads 27-20-3. So I’m not sure where the real football and real tradition is. I also believe Texas A&M is 0 for everything since 1996 against sec schools. I sure hope for their sake, that will change this year.

I’m not judging all A&M fans — 99% have been great to me — or the school — it’ll be a PERFECT fit in the SEC — over a billboard. I’ve agreed with pretty much all of your posts since I started following your site a year ago. However, it’s pretty outlandish that you would want to condemn all Aggies because of one idiot. Aggies do not agree with what was said in that billboard and every Aggie knows those statements are unsubstantiated. 1. A&M struggled with NCAA Sanctions in the 80s and 90s 2. Florida has great academics, evident by the fact that it was apart of the AAU 16 years before A&M was. In addition, Mizzou has been in the AAU since 1908 and Vandy has been since 1950. 3. No Aggie refers to our fan base as “Aggie Nation”. We are called simply “Aggies” or “Former Students” or if you are referring to the College Station area “Aggieland.” Aggie Nation is never used. It’s lame and when outsiders refer to us as Aggie Nation, we cringe.

Don’t lump us all into one pot because of one faceless man. At least it wasn’t some guy on the football team talking smack about Florida playing like Ohio State.

Yes, I fully acknowledge this was/is an opinion piece and subject to that. My response was simply that as well, my opinion based on yours.
We’re in total agreement with our mutual response to “smack talk” and I loathe it since I think it to be the purview of the weak minded or at best, incredibly poor momentary judgment. Also, young men make mistakes (as well as old) and I hope Mr. Richardson learns from this. I also hope he comes out and has his best year ever since we need his best along with every other Missouri team member to have a quality SEC inaugural year.
Honestly, I didn’t put forth the notion of who you should be rooting for since I respect individual decision making. My concern in this case was your shift of position based on a single individuals (not programs) mouthing not reflective of general program conduct from everyone associated with it. But now that you ask “why would you care who I pull for on Saturday anyway?”, after thought, I still think it’s your business but in the case of Missouri, I’ve appreciated all of your thoughts during the realignment discussion up to Missouri becoming a fully fledged SEC member. The majority of the time I’ve found your site content interesting, informative and thoughtful and for a program I love to have your support, of course I’d like that and hope you swing back around for this weekend’s game since we’re still the underdog.

@John at MrSEC I’m a Wildcat fan so it doesn’t really bother me either way, but living in Houston for a number of years now I’ve gotten to know enough about the dynamics here to know that the billboard doesn’t sound like something an A&M grad would say, but it does look like something a Baylor or UTexas fan would do. It’s clearly a thinly-veiled insult to A&M and meant to create a certain reaction in the media, such as a headline like “Got stupid? A&M taunts UF with billboard in Gainsville.”

MrSEC wrote in 2010 after doing a mountain of research that A&M would “definitely” join the SEC at some point. A year later, they did. This website wrote in 2010 that Missouri should be considered a potential expansion partner… and we were laughed off the web for posting something so unheard of at the time.

I’ve written a few hundred articles defending those schools’ inclusion in the league and I’ve stated numerous times on this site, on TV, and on radio that they will be good additions.

You may like to think that everyone’s against Missouri, but this site has been pro-Mizzou since before the Tigers were even considered a possibility.

And I’d still like to see A&M and Mizzou earn some quick respect in the SEC. But this week, due to trash talk, I’d like to see ‘em get a wake-up call.

Unlike you, I don’t lose sleep over any SEC team winning or losing. Perhaps that’s why I can flip-flop on games like this. I… don’t… care.

But to suggest I’m anti-Mizzou or A&M, well, you clearly haven’t paid attention to what this site’s been writing for two years.

Again, you speak of my assumption. I’m the only guy that I’ve seen so far who’s even made reference to the possibility that it could be someone other than an A&M fan.

These billboard companies typically don’t like to hand out information about who buys ads. Sooner or later it will come out.

If it’s an Aggie booster, I hope he eats his (billboard-posted) words. If it’s not, then I hope A&M answers the bell on Saturday and proves itself to be a stellar addition to the SEC… which I believe the school and program to actually be.

I understand and agree with the overall point of the above article; however, I love the billboard solely because it makes me laugh. Richardson can only talk because he won’t be facing the entire first string Georgia defense this saturday. And as for Texas A&M I believe they have been on the wrongside of the NCAA once or twice (now if it is meant to be a shot at Florida players and the actual law…I understand that). But overall this just makes me more anxious for this Saturday of SEC football…rooting for the old Guard…Go Georgia and Florida…remind everyone why the SEC has been considered the best conference for the better part of the last decade.

I don’t care who wins and loses these games. I tend to pull for underdogs. This story just included my opinion — thus the word “opinion” right in the graphic. When I hear trash talking — from anyone — I typically enjoy seeing said talker get toasted. That doesn’t always happen, but that’s my usual hope.

And I feel the same way when some cornerback from the New England Patriots or some guard for the Boston Celtics — my personal favorite teams — pops off, too.

That’s just my take.

And why would you care who I pull for on Saturday anyway? It was going to be Mizzou because I was tired of hearing some SEC fans claim that MU is inferior. Now, it’s UGA because a Tiger flapped his gums. By Saturday I may flip again. Can’t see why it matters.
