@John at MrSEC Ha, ha, thanks for the reply and sorry if my post sounded harsh. I just thought it was kind of funny how you went on about " it’s amazing that we would have to explain this", because I had noticed that Bama and LSU were first and second last week. I did need it explained, as I was confused.

Why not just go ahead and rank them 1-14, but still leave the subcategories, which I like?

I really enjoy your site and you do a great job covering the SEC. Thanks.

@BonzaiB

To me, there's a difference between playing Great (national title contender), Good (Top 25 contender), Average (Bowl contender), and Bad (Basement contender).

If I did a 1-14, someone would have a problem with that, too.

Doing my best to be a little different. Thanks for reading,

@JWF

Turns out Georgia was indeed out of alphabetical order because I cut and pasted their section from another category at the last minute. I didn't realize I'd left them third instead of second.

I believe the rest were in alphabetical order... as these pieces have been from the beginning of the season.

Thanks for reading,John

Outside of a couple of minor tidbits (noted by others before I got here), the ONLY disagreement I have with this is mostly a formatting issue. By having "National Title Contender" followed immediately by "Top 25", it reads at first like there is a major league gap between UF and MSU and the National Title Contenders. I FULLY recognize that a) there is a BIG difference between an NT contender and number 25, b) this is just week four, and c) the top 25 includes 1-25, which would by definition include the two teams playing for the NT and numbers 3-25, so count this as just an eye candy comment.

I actually like the Gators being around 10-15 right now. Lot more games to go, and I like chasing the lead dog. I think the Aggies are going to end up a little higher (if they can figure out an offensive rhythm) than Tennessee, but have no way to guage that until they play another two or three smash mouth games. Very surprised to see Auburn and Arkansas at the bottom of the pack right now, and I keep waiting for them to come together and getting back in the hunt. But for now, it is what it is. I am still surprised Carolina is up there. I was jaded by their first game, they just did not look like they had the depth to keep it up. Wrong on that score.

It's too early to tell if there is more wrong with Mizzou than SEC competition. Obviously playing 2 of the top SEC teams--who may be even better than people already thought at the start of the season--has a lot to do with the 0-2 conference start. If Mizzou beats UCF on the road and takes care of Vandy at home, then you chalk up the Georgia & USC games to just playing superior competition and move on. But if Mizzou tanks in the next 2 games, then there are additional problems. I'm a little worried about this team due to the lack of fight and zero sense of urgency in the 2nd half of the USC game. And I'm NOT suggesting Mizzou would have won that game if they'd only played harder--so no flames, please. Only saying that I expect to see more grit from Mizzou even when facing a superior opponent--that includes the coaching staff. If the team only goes through the motions at UCF, then there are big problems. (Disclosure: Mizzou alum & season ticket holder)

Mizzou's current issues on offense would have likely doomed them worse vs. Big XII opponents (and the struggle vs. ASU shows it's more than just an SEC thing). The offense is a mess. Injuries have hampered Franklin and the offensive line. And Franklin is performing in some sort of slow-mo (much like the first half of the game vs. KU at Arrowhead last year). All that, mixed with amateurish play-calling has doomed the Tigers. Plus, the defense has always had a "bend, don't break" style. When the offense struggles (as it did vs. OSU last year) and the D has to bare the brunt of it all, it eventually crumbles.
