Florida may have won the battle with Texas A&M on Saturday, but two key injuries might cost them the war in the SEC East. UF lost two defensive players for about a month according to Will Muschamp today.
The Gainesville Sun breaks down the Gators’ current injury situation as follows:
* Linebacker Jelani Jenkins — out “about four weeks” following thumb surgery this morning
* Cornerback Cody Riggs — out “about four weeks” with a foot fracture
The news isn’t good for a pair of Florida players who were already on the shelf pre-A&M:
* Offensive tackle Matt Patchan — remains out with a strained pectoral muscle
* Linebacker Ronald Powell — will likely now redshirt after a suffering the setback of swelling following ACL surgery in January.
On a positive note, Muschamp says starting tailback Mike Gillislee and starting safety Josh Evans — both banged up against the Aggies last week — are expected to be ready to play on Saturday at Tennessee.
If Muschamp’s time table is correct, Jenkins and Riggs would miss SEC battles with Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU and possibly Vanderbilt.
