Remember a Vandy player making a "suplex" tackle in the 90's. The size of the 2 players was a major factor in both situations. It looked much worse than it was in reality. Suspending a player that excited to be in a big national TV game does nothing to prevent future incidents.

you hit the nail right on the head. maybe alabama's internal punishments were enough to satisfy the league office and considering this was a freshman second or third string there really isn't any reason to think conspiricy. that being said, the SEC now has to be very careful 1) to make sure it doesn't unfairly punish players for similar acts in the future and 2) that it hasn't openned a door saying anything that is technically not against the rules, no matter how wrong or dirty, can go unpunished.

we've already seen one player, Devon Walker of Tulane, seriously injured this season (given that was a semi-freak accident during a routine play, nothing dirty), and several others being affected by concussions, so hopefully this will be a point of emphasis during the off-season. rules need to be made that any dangerous, careless act, whether technically leagal or not, needs to be addressed. you're either in or out on safety issues. there should be no more fuzzy lines like this one in the future.
