@SouthernBoiSB @John at MrSEC @chadcopeland It's just another way of saying "all things being equal". The only way you can handicap this sort of list is to take away any built advantages in your comparison, ie the home-field advantage. It's debatable how much you can award the home team from a points perspective but the visitor does always face obstacles that the home team doesn't.

" I think if they played the five teams ahead of them on a neutral field, I'd favor the other teams at this point."

I've never really understood the "if they played on a neutral field" logic. Either you're good enough to beat somebody reguardless of where the game's located.....or you're not.

I would hate to have to handicap any game that featured #1 - #6 against any other team #1-#6 on this board. I think this is the best top 6 roster I have ever seen in the SEC. I'm sure there was a better leader board sometime, but for Pete's Sake, every one of them is in the top 10 nationally. And I have long been a fan of Spurrier (as a coach folks, not as a guy standing at the microphone), and have to agree that he is one of the best all time performers in college ball. The Gamecocks have done very well indeed with him at the helm.

@John at MrSEC I see your point and I agree with your perspective that fans (me included) tend to view their own team through rose colored glasses. Obviously, I’m not running back to my DVR and reviewing every play but what I remember sticking out to me during the course of the game is that I didn’t see any turnovers that were the result of bad snaps or QBs throwing to no one in particular. That’s just my imperfect recollection of events. Thanks for your great site and your hard work entertaining some of the most difficult to please people on the planet; SEC fans.

I just really didn't like the way the Tigers finished the season. I think if they played the five teams ahead of them on a neutral field, I'd favor the other teams at this point. Not by much, but I'd favor them.

That said, I also think LSU is one of the 10 or 11 best teams in the country. So as I stated in the piece, when a 10-2 LSU team is #6 on the list, it speaks to the strength of the league.

Thanks for reading the site,
John

@GeoffDawg

In five years of writing for this site, one thing I've learned is this:

When a fan's team turns the ball over, it's because of a bungling offense and penchant for shooting one's self in the foot. But when an opponent turns the ball over, it's because of tremendous, hard-hitting, ballhawking defenders forcing the issue.

The reality is that there's a certain amount of luck involved in how a ball bounces either way.

I get your point and I'm not arguing, just pointing out an observation I've made over the years.

As always, many thanks for reading the site,
John

Can't argue with the rankings, they seem pretty consistent with the respective team performances this year. They only point I might nit-pick would be the comment regarding Georgia and Florida benefitting from turnovers in key games. While this is technically true, to me the implication is that these are a gift when (at least for the Georgia-Florida game, didn't see much of the UF-FSU game), the turnovers were earned by defenses that were attacking the ball and forcing them.
This could be interepreted in more than one way so just a minor observation.

Seriously? LSU ranked right 6? It had close losses to numbers 1 (and heartbreaking one) and 3, and beat 4 and 5 (at #4's house).
