@I4Bama Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Your son is better off for it. Unfortunately, Mr Gilmer has also stated an unfortunate reality. We are now living in the Jimmy Jones world, where even our most successful citizens feels the need to co-opt and embrace corruption for the glitter of a winning football program (Jones just gave an interview saying he thinks it is time for Arkansas to re-hire BP). And Jones is sadly part of the new “moral majority” in our country. Everything is now process. You betray your wife, your responsibilities and your contract, you do 9 months penance, do a mea culpa interview and get re-hired to a multi million dollar contract. Has nothing to do with forgiveness, has to do with having a standard that is actually a standard. Can anybody here remember Penn State? You hire slime, slime will ooze all over your program.

@I4Bama And I think that’s the crux of it. Some folks are far too condemning and hypocritical, no doubt, but actions have consequences. If someone demonstrates a pattern of irresponsibility and poor judgement then it is only prudent to hold them accountable for that. Doing that in and of itself doesn’t mean you look down your nose at someone personally.

Unfortunately, Petrino will be a success even in recruiting. Most families ( and I use the term loosely) have the morals today of the average Maury guest. They could not care less about what or who the Coach is doing. They only care about whats in it for them. Sad but true in a lot of cases.

Forgiveness is a far cry from the consideration of who you will allow to mold young minds in your name and under your banner. We are all in need of forgiveness. My son’s role models, however, will be those who will lead him by example and expect him to follow. I would be willing to forgive Petrino, but he would not coach my son’s team.
