Not sure. Interesting question. You're correct that a lot of these moves are knee-jerk type moves.

At first blush, I don't think the size of the playoff would slow too much of this stuff. Ninety percent of these moves are being made for television revenue purposes. Even if an eight-team playoff added X to the equation, leagues and schools would still want as much about X as they could get from a TV contract or their own league-owned networks.

Good question.

Thanks again for reading our site,

@John at MrSEC no problem, i love the site

was wanting your insight on something.

with conference realignment, do you think if it was an 8 team playoff instead of 4 that it would throw a wet blanket on some of these moves?

while there were moves well before the 4 team playoff was announced, and all have more than just one reason, it feels like alot of these moves of late are vary knee jerk.
i understand why Big IIX, Pac 12, and SEC would agree to the format, why would the commissioner of the B1G, ACC, BIG East, Con- USA or Mac ever agree to a format that would hardly take one of there members. Even if it is temporary why let the possibility of your guys not getting in and give a huge boost to the argument that a team would need to get out of your conference to even get a shot at a national championship.

with four it feels like four super conference is a self fulfilling prophecy, while if there were eight spot i think teams would feel a little better with staying in a small pond, a small pond that is employing the person who just signed on to a format that makes his conference look irrelevant.
