@buddha22 @alamoaggie08 Uh, Hello, Kerryville is where Johny Manziel is from. Kerryville, one of the richest small towns per capita in the US. And, the Manziel’s are not a cash strapped family. Their family business is…. oil. Sure, the kid could have taken a freebie, and he could have worked slinging burgers for years to save up the price of the ticket, but much more likely scenario is, it came from his parents.

I was disappointed in Kerr’s comments last night. It was what I view as typical jealousy of SEC domination in sports. He can’t brag about Arizona and the PAC 10 so he puts down the SEC by implying they pay players. Perhaps he should look at his own conference’s misdeeds before casting a stone.

@buddha22 @alamoaggie08 first of all, as far as i’ve heard his parents are upper middle class. second, i worked $8/hr jobs for three summers and weekends during high school and didn’t spend every dime buying typical girl crap. like i said, i’m breaking my frugal ways by going to colorado for a whole week , but i’ve saved enough money that it’s not like i will go broke from treating myself to a rare, memorable experience. my point is everyone is trying to say it’s impossible for a 20 yr old to have saved $500-$1000, and i’m saying that’s not true and i’m living proof. as a side note, there is also such a thing as inheritance. i would like to say i hope that’s not where he got his money because that would mean someone he loved passed away. fortunatey and unfortunately enough i have plenty of inheritance money that i never plan to use unless it’s an emergency. but it is there.

@alamoaggie08 Doesn’t sound like he’s Johnny Frugal to me…besides, what “job” could he have had that would earn him enough to blow on courtside seats? Seriously, are his parents rich? That would be the easiest answer. Otherwise, maybe Johhny would like to share that receipt, surely he didn’t pay that price with folding money?

Sounds like Kerr’s mouth runs faster than his brain. Also, I don’t think there are issues with soft caps as long as you don’t go over the 85 max scholarships limit with commitable offers. Georgia’s at the thirty mark now I believe but I think they operated in 2012 at only around 70 scholarship players so they have a lot of backfilling to do. That of course is contingent on programs not running off underperforming players to make room for fresh ones. Not that that sort of thing is easy to prove.

Not too complicated: parents put away money in a college fund, kid gets a full ride scholarship, parents are suddenly flush with cash, parents let kid use some of the money to enjoy some of the finer things in life. This scenario happens every year to student athlete and non student athletes alike.

my grandparents have given me money and spurs tickets for my birthday and christmas several times. also, did kerr ever consider that maybe johnny is actually smart enought to save some money? i worked in high school and was able to save a couple grand - money i still have today from being frugal. now, i’m 27, working, making money and building up my accounts for the future. what am i doing with some of that saved money? i’m treating myself to trip to colorado for christmas, and each person in my family is paying their share. it’s costing me a similar amount as courtside tickets, the main difference being i’m covering several expenses over several days vs. a three hour event. who’s to say johnny isn’t doing the same thing and treating himself to a memorable experience with money he earned and/or saved over time? it is not steve kerr’s place to judge anyone other than the players playing basketball on the court.

I’ve been to one NBA game in my life. My freshman year at Auburn, the guy in the dorm room next door’s fathers company had season tickets to the Atlanta Hawks. Second row courtside. Last minute his Dad called and asked him if he wanted the tickets (Atlanta is 90 miles from Auburn) and we saw Utah Jazz vs. the Hawks. Mr. Kerr stick to the NBA.
