LOLZ. Bring it, dude. The SEC is going to wind up being BOTH teams in the NC game in a playoff system. THEN you’re going to find WHAT new and equally whiny excuse for why your team and conference isn’t making the grade? The only hope the other conferences have is to limit the number of SEC teams that can be in the playoffs, as they did with the BCS bowls THIS year. Heh. The SEC goes 6-3 in bowls and everyone notes that they’re “DOWN”…. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL…

It is significant that the little 10 has both the most BCS bowl appearances and the most losses. Over-rated? Always!

It just hit me that you probably meant Oklahoma State and not Ohio State when you said OSU. The Big XII does have moe credibility when they whine about the BCS, although both Big XII co-champs being crushed by non-champs from other conferences in their bowls waters down their argument. Oregon is the team that could probably have beaten the SEC in the NC game this year, but didn’t get a shot. However, they did lose to LSU and Auburn when they did get a shot.

@Go USC : it is a shame that the B1G hasn’t gotten their shot to show the SEC a thing or 2 in the NC game. If only they had a few SEC champ vs B1G champ matchups to shut us SEC homers up! Just a question, though…wouldn’t the B1G have almost as many BCS titles as the SEC if LSU and Florida hadn’t both crushed Ohio St in the NC game? Shouldn’t your argument be that it is unfair that the B1G always ends up in the NC game against the SEC? Otherwise, they could win more championships. Nobody ever talks about the B1G victories over the SEC in the title game because there isn’t much to talk about…

You do realize that this is all “mythical” right? Many years teams that should have played in the NC game were left out (example OSU last year). That (and E$PN) are the biggest reason for the SEC run, not on field performance. Playoffs will reveal this in time.

We went back through 15 years of bowl results mixing and matching schools with their then- and now-conferences. If you guys have the time to go back through each of those games as well as the NCAA’s official penalties list and scratch off vacated wins one by one and school by school… you’ve got more time on your hands than we do.

We tackled this once. Then we tackled it again when there were complaints. That’s our contribution. And we chose to count — for the sake of time and simplicity — the on-field results.

Just a technicality but wasn’t USC’s 2004 BCS title vacated? Should that count towards the Pac-10/12′s total bowl record?

Very good article. Your last chart says it all — SEC with 8 titles, Big 12 with 2 titles and no one else more than 1 title. Big 10 is tied in titles with ACC, PAC and Big East. Thanks.
