@GeoffDawg They have a very high opinion of themselves. Generally Nebraskans are nice people until you get them talking football…then they are like jaysquacks. they act like they invented the sport. Their fans had a self-hyped opinion that they are the best fans in college football. That ended (if it ever really existed) in the 90s…along with their team. Look, you get spankws by a score of 70-35 by the 3rd team in the rust division, well, your 10 wins look really suspect, confirmed by the schedule.

After seeing UF repeatedly getting punched in the mouth by Louisville, I wouldn’t be so quick to chirp about the SEC’s defenses either, however. ‘Bama’s & LSU’s are good, no doubt (and SC has Clowney, though, de-cleating hit aside, he mostly just helped Lewan’s draft stock), but the rest of the SEC? I wouldn’t say they’re better than the B10 defenses. MSU had one of the most dominating defenses I’ve seen in college football (though they were done in by an atrocious offense; with an average offense that would get the defense off the field every so often, MSU would have gone to a BCS bowl; a good offense would have had Sparty challenging for the national title).

Yeah and there’s a big difference in having a week or in this case a month to prepare for the game. Nebraska pulled out quite a few new offensive plays for that game.

To point a point to the whole cry baby talk. Tennessee play Georgia closer than Neb did. So Neb is only as good as the 8-10th (depending on how orange your glasses are) best team in the SEC? That is something to call home about.

@knoxdawgtn Now Birkhead had a tremendous game rushing the ball. If he wants to talk smack, he’s earned it. Martinez on the other hand threw two INTs and choked big time when it mattered. I heard someone mention on the radio this morning that the demeanor of the Nebraska team closely mirrors that of Bo Pelini; namely that no matter what, they’re going to act like nobody and nothing impresses them.

Nice article with facts to put his comments in perspective. Bottomline, just look at the Big 10′s bowl record this year and last year. Not excactly something that suggests the league is anything but in the bottom tier.

By the way, Georgia’s defense was not “supposed to be one of the best defenses in the SEC” as Martinez stated. Fact: Georgia was 6th in the SEC in scroing and total defense, and 12th in rushing defense, and only 9th in sacks. Georgia is certainly one of the best teams in the nation, but not on “D”.

Guess he has the right to say whatever he wants to. Bottom line is he got beat, had opportunities to score points and didn’t. Should have added at least another 7 to that 45 total as Mr. King dropped a sure TD pass towards the end. Martinez and company may have moved the ball during the first 35 minutes of the game but the the last 25 they never really even threatened. Who was it that threw the pass that got intercepted by Swain? Believe it was Martinez. Guess its just sour grapes on his part.
