@j_scott_o Oh I see A&M being a rival for just about everybody in the West at one time or another, but I was just picking the top two. Arkansas and A&M have been going at it for years, but it has meant more to the Razorbacks than the Ags (I think). I had not thought about Miss State, was leaning more towards Auburn, but its definitely Bama, LSU and A&M for the near term. I like this new flavor in the West.

Why would the Aggies want to play TU when they left the Big 12 - 2 to get away from them? Doesn't a lawmaker have more pressing problems to solve?

Pretty much agree with everything you typed! My guess is this Aggie pol is getting an earful from fellow Ags! There are a lot of ties between A&M and Bama that would make them natural rivals...same w/ MissSt. I can also see us becoming big rivals with LSU & Arky as well.

I'm an outsider on this issue, but it seems to me that A&M has demonstrated that it doesn't need to play Texas. The early returns suggest that the move to the SEC gave A&M a much greater boost than the Longhorn Network has given Texas. A&M has emerged from the UT shadow and is now in the national limelight. Why would it want to play Texas?

i agree that (if texas mans up) there will be plenty of postgame meetings if the non-playoff bowl system remains the same. besides, we don't need them. let tu come crawling back to us after they finally realize it's the only way to even slightly tip the recruiting scale back in their direction.

At this point in time the only winner of forcing this game on Texas and A&M is Oklahoma. They would love to see one or the other of us beat the tar out of the other so they can regain some of the recruiting advantage they have lost in Texas. Maybe in the future but even then there are plenty of opportunities for us to meet every 3 to 5 years with the Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, the Play-in games, and the championship game. Those will be some great leave it on the field games much better than any yearly match up.

@j_scott_o I for one think this is a publicity stunt by a stupid Ag politician, and there are just as many dumb Ag politicians as there are UF politicians per capita, so not a mud slinging comment towards A&M. Every Ag I have talked to could care less about playing Texas, and no Texas grad is going to let an Aggie push them into a game they don't want right now (and probably more Texas grads in the legislature than Aggies). And, I cannot imagine the A&M administration would at this point welcome a "mandatory" game to complicate their schedule right now with rumors of a 9 game SEC schedule coming.

I personally think movement towards mega conferences is going to bring the Feds in with a heavy hand, so stupid state legislators throwing their two cents in right now is just not good for the sport. Its bad for schools (the business side of the house), and its bad for the fans.

I am on record as hoping A&M and Alabama become arch rivals. We have Georgia and Tennessee, see no reason why you guys can't have Bama and LSU. Everybody else in the state of Texas just does not matter to the SEC right now.

If I'm not mistaken, Alabama was forced by the state legislature to play Auburn at some point in their history. I think that's why Auburn has a longer history of playing Georgia than they do the Tide.

As an Aggie alum, I could care less if we play tu. Yes, it was a great game and a great tradition. Yes, I have a ton of Longhorn friends. But, I'm just fine with not playing them anymore. Would I like to? Sure. Do I care if we don't play in the foreseeable future? Nope. If we play in a bowl game...great. I like where we currently are right now...in the thick of the SEC. The best thing to happen to A&M after we got rid of Slocum was to move to the SEC and hire Sumlin. One advantage the Horns had over A&M is Austin vs College Station angle. I lived in Austin for about 7 years...and I loved it. Hard to compete w/ everything going on there. But, now that we are in the SEC...we have a new selling point...and, I think it counters the Austin nightlife angle...if not surpassing it.

So, would I welcome this game? Sure. Do I want this game? Not really. Do we need this game? Nope. Gig 'em
