According to multiple reports yesterday, Florida has swiped a coach from South Carolina. Gamecock defensive line coach Brad Lawing is reportedly leaving Columbia to take over as defensive ends coach in Gainesville.
Last week, Florida lost defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to Seattle and promoted linebackers coach DJ Durkin to replace him. Lawing — who looks like he should be wrestling crocodiles down under — will fill the spot left vacant by Quinn’s departure.
The 55-year-old Lawing has served on Steve Spurrier’s Carolina staff since 2006. Well-respected as a recruiter, his departure so close to signing day could cause some hiccups for the Gamecocks (who now have a slot to fill on their staff). And aid the Gators.
Update: South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward: “Brad’s reason to leave here was way beyond football, and that’s between him and his family.”
