Love this! As a Vol fan, it's nice knowing we aren't the most poor, lonely, decrip base out there. Thanks Cuonzo & last year's boys for saving that a bit
In the past, we’ve done the little exercise you’re about to see at the end of each school year. But on New Year’s Eve we thought: Why not just look at which fans enjoyed the best calendar year? And that’s what we’ve tried to break down below.
We kept things awfully simple, looking only at the games and titles won between January 1st, 2012 and yesterday, December 31st, 2012. We looked only at the two revenue sports on SEC campuses — which also happen to be the two sports we cover around here — football and men’s basketball.
We handed out a point for each basketball win in 2012 and three points for every football win (because there are about three times as many basketball games played). We also awarded five bonus points for any fanbase that got to see its team play in a bowl game or in the NCAA Tournament in 2012. We gave a three-point bonus for an NIT bid. The bonuses only got bigger from there:
* 10 points for a conference basketball tournament title
* 25 points for a conference title in football or basketball
* 50 point for a national title in football or basketball
For you Missouri and Texas A&M fans, yes, we counted Big XII accomplishments in this mix.
So which fans enjoyed the happiest 2012 in terms of victories, title and bragging rights? Here ya go…
| School | FB Points | BB Points | Bowl Bid | NCAA Bid | NIT Bid | Tourn. Title | Conf. Title | Nat. Title | Total Points |
| Alabama | 39 | 18 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 25 | 50 | 142 |
| Kentucky | 6 | 33 | 0 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 25 | 50 | 119 |
| Florida | 36 | 24 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 70 |
| Vanderbilt | 27 | 21 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 68 |
| LSU | 30 | 15 | 10 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 58 |
| Missouri | 15 | 27 | 0 | 5 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 57 |
| S. Carolina | 33 | 12 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 50 |
| Georgia | 33 | 11 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 49 |
| Texas A&M | 30 | 14 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 44 |
| Ole Miss | 18 | 21 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 42 |
| Miss. State | 24 | 12 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 39 |
| Tennessee | 15 | 21 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 39 |
| Arkansas | 15 | 15 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 35 |
| Auburn | 9 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 20 |
It should be noted that Alabama won the 2011 national football championship with a victory in the BCS title game last January. So while the Crimson Tide technically won the crown for 2011, the team won it on the field in 2012 and that’s when they’re fans rejoiced.
For those wondering about the actual victory totals, here’s how each team did during the calendar year of 2012 (listed in alphabetical order):
| School | Football Record | Basketball Record |
| Alabama | 13-1 | 18-14 |
| Arkansas | 5-8 | 16-15 |
