Signing Day 2013: The Battle For Georgia

state map georgiaLooking at Wednesday’s signees — including junior college and prep school athletes — here’s a snapshot of the talent produced by the state of Georgia in 2013 (as graded by Rivals.com):

5-stars = 4

4-stars = 20

3- stars = 103

Total 3+ stars = 127

Here’s where the state’s 10 highest-ranked players are headed:

Alabama = 2

Auburn = 2

Ohio State = 2

Florida = 1

Georgia = 1

Ole Miss = 1

South Carolina = 1

Loyalty:  Just one of the state’s 10 top players inked with an in-state school Wednesday.  Yikes.  From the “Dream Team” of 2011 to the “Nightmare Team” of 2013, Georgia certainly struck out with a number of the state’s best prospects this year.  (Of course, the Dawgs made up for that deficiency elsewhere.)  It’s no surprise Alabama and Auburn pried some recruits loose, but Urban Meyer’s Buckeye raid should raise concerns.
