When it comes to storylines we want to watch play out this fall, the offensive philosophy at Arkansas ranks pretty high on our list. Bret Bielema’s Wisconsin teams ran the ball more than they threw it. Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney’s Purdue and Tennessee teams threw the ball all over the yard.
So what does Bielema say about the offense he wants to run at Arkansas?
“If we have to put five wideouts on the field and that gives us the best chance to win that’s what I’ll do, but I don’t think that is. So we’ll stick to the formula that we’ve been accustomed to. Jim Chaney’s kind of seen everything. He’s been an offensive coordinator in a variety of different systems.
The thing I like is that our players have bought into it big time. I think our wide receivers read to much of what was being said. They thought we were just going to run the football as many times as we could and throw it every so often. But we’re gonna be a balanced football team. My goal is if we average over 200, 210 yards running the football and throwing the football we’re going to win a lot of games. And that’s been the formula of our success in the past.”
We shall see.
