It’s a bit complicated for the people who get paid to make schedules. It’s not complicated to the fans who get the schedules each year.

As a possible example, for Florida, give Georgia, South Carolina, and Auburn as primary rivals, and LSU, A&M, UK, and Alabama as secondary rivals. Their 4 year schedule can look like:

Year 1 H:UG,AU,SC,A&M,Bama,LSU,OM,UT,MU
A:UG,AU,SC,A&M,Bama,UK,MSU,VU,Arkie
Year 2 H:UG,AU,SC,LSU,UK,A&M,MSU,VU,Arkie
A:UG,AU,SC,LSU,UK,Bama,OM,UT,MU
Year 3 H:UG,AU,SC,A&M,Bama,UK,OM,UT,MU
A:UG,AU,SC,A&M,Bama,LSU,MSU,VU,Arkie
Year 4:H:UG,AU,SC,LSU,UK,Bama,MSU,VU,Arkie
A:UG,AU,SC,LSU,UK,A&M,OM,UT,MU

They get the variety of playing every SEC team every year, but also get to establish regular rivals with their own personalized ‘division’ of 7 teams.

Also, travel would be reduced for the interior schools by keeping most of their rivals geographically close (not as much for a school like Florida).

Exactly. At least Tn was ranked back then. Memphis football is NEVER ranked. UT football hasn’t been ranked in years and won’t be for years to come by the look of things. UT basketball’s rpi is something like 127 and Memphis is not ranked.

Do you think someone is Jackson, TN or Johnson City TN would look forward to a UT / Memphis football game next year? It ain’t Alabama / Auburn that’s for sure.

@Law Hawg Because of the success of the SEC. Seriously. As his instate rival enjoys the financial benefits of SEC membership, his revenues fall ever further behind. If he intends on having his school be a legitimate alternative in that region, new revenue sources must be found. The current B12 model starting 2012 will pay more then the projected renegotiated ACC contracts will pay. Add to that the B12 has yet to renegotiate their tier 1 contract which is projected to add so much more… IF THE B12 comes calling, he has to listen.

That “i.e. Josh Dawson” clearly was not an attempt to put words in Franklin’s mouth. He quoted his statements about decommits in general — and Franklin admits making them — and then he attempted to explain who Franklin was talking about. And there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Dawson was who he was talking about. There were only two decommits.

Read your coach’s words. He admits he was wrong to use those words and he admits that he was using a double-standard.

There is a simple solution to preserving the Georgia – Auburn, Alabama – Tenessee, and Ole Miss – Vandy rivalries; keeping an eight game conference schedule; and doing away with permant cross division rival. Move Alabama and Auburn to the East and Missouri and Vandy to the West.

The SEC should only require that each school play every other school within its division, but permit any school to schedule as many games as it wants with schools from the other division. However, the games against schools from the other division would not be counted in determining the division champion. Thus Tennessee would play all six of the other eastern division schools, and it would be free to schedule a game with Alabama of any other western division school, without risking any impact on its eastern division championship chances.

I don’t think it would be a good investment for Little Rock to maintain a fancy stadium for two games a year. The university has already built a stadium and it’s a waste for it to go unused while the team plays at a neutral site. Little Rock isn’t very likely to get a NFL team and I doubt there’s a small college in the area that needs to play in a big stadium.

Cities in Florida (Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa) did this same thing. Whenever anyone did an economic analysis it never made financial sense to build a stadium unless it had a regular tenant that would fill the stadium but that never stopped those cities from building. The Florida A&M-Bethune Cookman game in Jacksonville or University of Tampa games at Tampa stadium didn’t draw enough fans to support a big fancy stadium.

I would really like to see them just go back to the traditional bowls and then just have a plus one after that. There are really only 4 Bowls that could supply a champion. On Average, one of those 4 will be irrelavant, one of those will have an upset and that leaves the two others to play in the championship.

I like 8 teams because it eventually will get to that anyway. Maybe onlly conference champions get home field advantage in the first round? It would make the regular season mean something and follows a proven model in the NFL (division champions). As long as all tickets are sold out at the hosting team stadium then all is fine. In fact, maybe that is a guaranteed requirement by all participating universities and conferences. I cannot imagine any FBS school not being able to sell all of its tickets to a college football playoff game. The hard part for me is how the major bowls should be involved. When four teams are left, there are three games remaining. Hard to share three games when the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Rose and Cotton (Cowboys Stadium) all make compelling cases to participate.

I attended my first college football game at War Memorial stadium in 1956. Baylor beat Arkansas 12 – 0 in the season opener. It was Frank Broyles first game as the Razorback head coach. I have had many wonderful memories at War Memorial over the past 55 years. Many of my favorite memories involve the “red-hot” Ark. – LSU series. I hope the Hogs continue to play in War Memorial for many years to come & I especially hope they keep the LSU series there.

I have attended many games at War Memorial over the years. Although the stadium is smaller(holds a little over 55,000), it is typically louder because of the bowl shape and additionally the field is well below outside ground level. I hope that they do upgrade the facilities and that 2 games remain in Little Rock for those fans that cannot/will not drive 5+ hours to Fayetteville for a game. That being said, the University Administration is committed to driving revenue and the games in Little Rock are currently costing the Razorbacks income with the fewer seats and increased travel expenses.

The picture is shown a little out of context, he placed that hat on his head before changing his mind later on. Although the injury he suffered doesn’t seem to be serious. Last time I checked it isn’t a crime to offer a gray shirt to an injured player. I wish Darius the best I am sure his career will be followed closey.
