The attempted armed robbery charges against Tennessee freshman safety Janzen Jackson have been dropped this morning.

Knox County prosecutors decided not to push forward against Jackson or the female driver of the getaway car in a late night incident two weeks ago.  (She will face charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, however.)

“The investigation and careful review of all relevant evidence failed to show… Ms. Montmarquet or Mr. Jackson had prior knowledge that the attempted robbery was going to take place and were unaware something had occurred until after they …

Now wait, John.  Exactly which information from which of your sources are we the uninformed expected to rely?  It's a pretty strong statement for you to say that an”incredible” amount of pressure had been brought on the DA's office by the Athletic Administration to drop the charges againstJackson, based on a source inside the KPD.  That, if true, would disappoint me, though not surprise me.  Then, in what you call and “UPDATE”, and what I might call a 180 degree about face on this previous statement, you site another source, a reliable source inside the DA's office, that says in fact no pressure what so ever was brought by the UT Athletic Department on Jackson's behalf.  That isn't just an update; that's a complete reversal.  And so that makes me, your faithful reader/tv show watcher, wonder which sources are accurate.

Has Kiffin REALLY been pushing for Jackson to get back on the field soon, as your source says?  Do KPD officers REALLY believe Jackson was just as involved as the other two?  Is it simply a matter of a lack of evidence that led to the dismissal of charges, or, as the DA suggested in his statement today, was there actually evidence that led them to the conclusion that Jackson simply was not involved?

I enjoy your work very much, will keep reading this site, watching on Sunday mornings, listening on game days.  But I'm surprised you would make a charge like tampering from the AD and coaches, then make an equally “inside knowledge” statement that refutes those charges completely, and not include some editorial comments to help us know which you believe to be the truth.  Color me confused on all your inside sources.
