1. Mike Herndon of The Mobile Press-Register writes that Florida and Alabama still have half a season to navigate before meeting in Atlanta.
2. Doug Segrest of The Birmingham News lays out the nation’s BCS contenders and their chances.
3. First come the BCS rankings, then come the complaints.
4. Gary Laney of The Baton Rouge Advocate looks at “the spread of the spread” and writes that it’s getting harder and harder to find high school quarterbacks who know how to take a snap under center.
5. David Ching of The Athens Banner-Herald believes Mark Ingram will win the Heisman this year.
6. Tony Barnhart of The AJC doesn’t believe the SEC is down. In fact, he thinks it’s the best conference in America this year. (Again.)
7. Antonya English of The St. Petersburg Times put together an excellent comparison between Florida’s offense last year and Florida’s offense this year. Statistically speaking, there’s not been a lot of difference between the two teams’ first six games. But last year’s Gators team blew up in the second half.
8. Mike Bianchi of The Orlando Sentinel suggests that SEC officials aren’t above handing top teams wins. (Personally, I think that’s ridiculous and was probably written to simply “stir the pot.”)
9. In basketball news, Seth Emerson of The State writes that the SEC is on the rise again.
