Around The SEC West – 3/2/09

Here are the top stories from the SEC West in one-liner fashion this morning:

Bama:  Philip Pearson seems to have the Tide now playing with confidence.

Bama:  UA’s 90-69 whipping of Ole Miss marked the Tide’s first SEC road victory in more than two years, snapping an 18-game skid.

Bama:  In football, Nick Saban has adjusted Alabama’s spring practice schedule so he won’t have to work his guys on Easter weekend.  (Now, that’s hardly the work of Nick “Satan,” don’t you think?)

Bama & Aub:  In-state basketball prospects don’t grow up longing to play ball for Alabama or Auburn.

Aub:  Gus Malzahn says he wants his offense to play fast… but it’s a different kind of fast than what Tony Franklin tried (he says).

Aub:  The Tigers had a balanced offensive attack in whipping Mississippi State 76-58 on Saturday.

Ark:  Ryan Mallett was allegedly so drunk before his arrest that he could barely stand up.

Ark:  Here’s a copy of the police report on Mallett’s public intoxication arrest.

Ark:  The fact that Arkansas’ 1994 national title team was in the house helped the Razorbacks come out focused in their 89-67 win over Georgia.

Ark:  The win was the Hogs’ first since January 20th… snapping an eight-game losing streak.

Ark:  Nolan Richardson’s return to Arkansas earned him a standing ovation.

LSU:  The late-game shootout between Jodie Meeks and Marcus Thornton resulted in yet another SEC road win for the Tigers.

LSU:  Billy Gillispie praised LSU for playing hard “at the beginning, at the middle and at the end” of games.

LSU:  Trent Johnson has succeeded by “letting his players play” according to this scribe.

LSU:  In case you missed it, Les Miles has said that Jordan Jefferson hasn’t won the starting quarterback job just yet.  (That’s a motivational tool, Miles is crazy if Jefferson isn’t his starter.)

UM:  Andy Kennedy had been getting the most out of his battered and brusied Rebels… until Saturday’s blowout loss to Alabama in Oxford.

UM:  Illness, ailments and young players who are suddenly hitting a wall are all partially to blame for the Rebels downturn last week.

MSU:  After losing a “must win” game at Knoxville mid-week, the Bulldogs apparently couldn’t recover in time to face Auburn on Saturday.
