The big news coming out of Columbia is the surprise move at tailback where Taylor Rank will get the start versus NC State, not Mike Davis. “Taylor’s had a little bit better pre-season practice,” Steve Spurrier said. “Mike will be in early, though. He’s ready to play.” Davis missed time this pre-season with a shoulder injury and a stomach virus.
Two years ago, when Rank had to fill in against Florida Atlantic, he responded with 101 yards on 15 carries. He’s had seven carries for just three yards since that game.
Davis doesn’t sound too thrilled about the back-up role, but he and Rank remain close. “Of course I’m not OK with (not starting), but that’s just like my brother, like everyone else.”
