1. Defensive coaches Ellis Johnson and Lorenzo Ward say they loved their time at Alabama. “If there’s anybody in college coaching that doesn’t consider it a special day to go coach in Bryant-Denny (Stadium), then they need to get out of coaching,” Johnson said.
2. Nick Saban says he has a “tremendous amount of respect” for Steve Spurrier and that USC’s offense is “well-designed and well-conceived.”
3. This notes column reports that Shane Beamer got a game ball for his “continual recruiting” of receiver Alshon Jeffery. Spurrier finally gave a gameball to defensive back CC Whitlock, too.
4. Tight end Weslye Saunders is expected to be back from a sprained ankle.
5. The Gamecocks will have to figure out a way to stop Bama tailback Mark Ingram on Saturday… a player who is always looking for ways to improve.
6. Offensive line coach Eric Wolford believes his guys will be ready for the Tide. “These are the games you remember the rest of your life. You don’t remember those small games. Looking back at my career (at Kansas State), these are the games you remember. It’s your job to make it special.”
7. Seth Emerson of The State doesn’t believe Spurrier has any regrets about sticking in Columbia instead of heading off to Tuscaloosa. “… he wanted to succeed where others hadn’t, to blaze his own path.”
8. This writer believes the SEC’s new television package is hurting attendance at Williams-Brice Stadium.
