Notes from Dan Mullen’s teleconference:
* Brandon McRae has worked really hard to get back on the field. “I don’t know if he’s playing at the same level he played at last year because of the injury.” “He’s really bought in to our new system.” McRae always had a good attitude during his rehab, even when things got to be a little frustrating.
* State can’t put too much emphasis on Dexter McCluster or someone else “will beat you.”
* Mullen said Tim Tebow taught him a lot about “different priorities in life.” He said that Tebow taught him, “If you have the ability to make a difference in someone’s life, it’s your obligation to do that. That’s pretty profound knowledge for a 20-year-old young man.”
* Mullen said he doesn’t know if the Egg Bowl — a single game — will have a huge impact on recruiting. He believes that players are looking at the overall direction of his program.
* Mullen said he doesn’t “know if there is” a perceived gap between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. It was pretty clear Mullen didn’t like the question of whether it was important to be competitive this week in order to show folks that the “perceived gap” between the schools was closing.
