FLORIDA FOOTBALL NOTES – 8/4/08

FROM SATURDAY:

With the playmakers at his disposal, there aren’t many worries about Urban Meyer’s offense this year.  But on the defensive side of the ball, there are many questions yet to be answered.

Robbie Andreu of The Gainesville Sun ranks Florida’s position groups as they head into fall practice… from the quarterbacks to the secondary and everything in between.

Upside, downside, the young guy to watch… Andreu also provides a scouting report on the Gators’ linebackers.

FROM SUNDAY:

Jeremy Fowler of The Orlando Sentinel lists five freshmen to keep an eye on this fall:  Jeffrey Demps, Will Hill, Omar hunter, Matt Patchan, and Janoris Jenkins.

Back-up quarterback John Brantley has no regrets about going to Florida an sitting behind Tim Tebow.  “It was fun.  A lot of people said not to go to Florida – ‘you won’t play, blah, blah, blah’ – but I’m sitting behind the Heisman Trophy winner.  I’m learning so much, just trying to absorb as much as I can from Tim.  And he’s helping me out a bunch, too.”

Rumor has it Brantley can now perform circumcisions almost as well as his mentor.

FROM TODAY:

If the national champion 2006 Gators could play the national champion 1996 Gators, which team would claim victory?  Pat Dooley of The Gainesville Sun doesn’t believe the game would even be close.  “The 1996 team would kill the 2006 team.”

And here’s a detailed practice report from this morning’s first practice.
