Florida Headlines – 10/23/09

1.  It still looks like Florida’s rush defense will be without some key members when they face Anthony Dixon and Mississippi State tomorrow.

2.  Robbie Andreu of The Gainesville Sun tabs Florida to win, “but it’s a very shaky call.”

3.  Florida’s offensive line isn’t proud of the fact that they allowed Arkansas to sack Tim Tebow six times last week.

4.  Urban Meyer said he had no problem with the suspension of the officiating crew that called the Florida-Arkansas game, but he wonders why the move was publicized.  (To fend off nutjobs who think that refs and the league fix games.)

5.  Tebow needs just one rushing touchdown to tie Herschel Walker’s SEC record of 49.  That’s amazing for a quarterback.

6.  Meyer said it wasn’t easy to replace kicker Jonathan Phillips with Caleb Sturgis, but the decision was “performance-based.”

7.  In basketball news, the Florida Gators are far from the SEC Media Day center of attention that they used to be.

8.  If Billy Donovan hadn’t ever-so-briefly jumped to the Orlando Magic two years ago, Patrick Patterson might have been a Gator instead of a Kentucky Wildcat.
