Wide Receiver Riley Cooper has agreed in principal to a baseball contract with the Texas Rangers that will allow him to play football for Florida this fall. It’s a bit of a surprise that someone with a pro baseball future would risk a football injury, but then again, how often can someone win back-to-back BCS title rings?
Cooper’s roommate Tim Tebow is glad to have him back. “He has made a bunch of big plays for us and I’m looking forward to hooking up with him for many more big plays.”
Running back Jeff Demps is on the Doak Walker Award watch list.
As practice gets started in Gainesville, the three biggest position battles can be found at left tackle, strong safety and tailback.
Robbie Andreu of The Gainesville Sun lists Andre Debose, Jon Bostic and Xavier Nixon as the Gators’ most important freshmen.
Replace Xavier Nixon with Sam Robey and you’ll have The Orlando Sentinel’s Jeremy Fowler’s top three Gator freshmen.
Keeping with the threes, here are three issues to keep an eye on throughout UF’s fall camp.
And an unusual note to close: 2010 recruit Stephen Alli has apparently decided to skip his senior year of high school and enroll at Florida a year early.
