Some surefire first-rounders have skipped the NFL Combine in years past, but not Percy Harvin. When I talked to his agency, Blue Equity Sports, about setting up a Harvin interview recently, they said he is denying all requests until after next week's Combine because "he has a lot to gain." About 4.3 seconds worth of gain. He should impress with his 40 time.
To prepare you, Gator fan, for the Combine that runs Wednesday through Feb. 24, here's what NFL.com has to say about the potential of Combine participants Harvin, wide receiver Louis Murphy, tight end Cornelius Ingram and offensive tackle Jason Watkins. Pretty interesting stuff about Murphy possibly changing the NFL perception that Gators wide receivers are underwhelming at the next level. You must admit, many of them have been mediocre at best in the NFL (Taylor Jacobs, both Caldwells, Ike Hilliard, Reidel Anthony, Chad Jackson, etc.).
My colleague Chris Harry threw out an interesting stat on the topic of whether Harvin will be a situational running back, wide receiver, kick returner or possibly all three in the pros. STAT: Since 2000, a total of 36 receivers have been drafted in the first round. Just one amassed 1,000 yards (here's the laugher: It was Tampa Bay's Michael Clayton in 2004).
