GEORGIA TECH AT GEORGIA

Of the eight SEC teams in action on this regular season final weekend, four of them are matched up with a non-conference rival. One of the best and oldest rivalries rekindle today in Athens as Georgia hosts Georgia Tech for the 103rd meeting between the two schools.

The Bulldogs are looking to run their winning streak against the Yellow Jackets to eight straight – something that hasn’t been in this in-state feud since Tech pulled it off from 1949 to 1956.  Georgia coach Mark Richt has one simple key for victory today.

“Winning turnover ratio, I would say. Every week that’s very true. Do the research of all of football for the last 50 years, and I betcha that’s the No. 1 determining factor on who wins and who loses.”

Tech coach Paul Johnson knows a thing or two about rivalry games.

“Having had the opportunity to coach in another big rivalry, it gives you some experience with this kind of thing,” said Johnson, who coached in the Army-Navy game.

“We have to do what we can do, go play the best game we can and let the chips fall where they may. If we’re good enough, then we’ll be good enough, and if we’re not, then we won’t.”

Tech still has an outside shot to wind up in the Orange Bowl as ACC champs.  To pull that off, the Yellow Jackets need a victory today in Athens, have Virginia beat Virginia Tech and then win next week’s ACC championship game.

The odds are against it and the oddsmakers agree.  This line opened at 9 but is now down to 7 1/2.  Georgia should get its eighth consecutive victory in this series if that line is correct.
